The Complete Farming Guide - Revised Jan 16 2011

Introduction
Farming is killing monsters for only their resource drops. These rare plants are usually sold to potion brewers or used by the farmer himself.

Requirements
Resource Finder
Increases the chance a resource item will drop. (If you fail to obtain an item, an extra roll is given for Resource Finder at a fixed percentage based on the points allocated to the skill. If this second roll is successful, you will obtain one of the available resource items drops (if any)). Note if you have Quest Finder active as well, this roll takes place after Quest Finder and only if Quest Finder fails to obtain an item.
Resource finder is a must, And I encourage you to use the highest level you can get. Remember to never use Resource Finder and Find Item at the same time!

You may buy this buff from a high level player or through potions:

Potion of the Genius Gatherer
Level 400
Duration 120 Minutes
Minimum Price ~

Comment
-Thanks to bglo for reminding me, I believe this is the highest Resouce Finder available but it does come with a hefty price.

Selling your Resources
Either find a potion maker or merchant willing to buy plants directly through a secure trade or simply sell them in the auction house.

Be aware of supply and demand if you're using the Auction House. Logically it is best to farm a resource when the supply is low and the demand is high.

Strategy
Combat
Do not farm a monster that you cannot 1-hit, Usually it's not worth it.

Extra Buffs
These buffs are optional, but most of the time they will boost your profits. It's much better to get them off a friend instead of buying.

Posted Image Unbreakable

User Tips

Get a trusted guild mate or a trusted friend to hold gold while you hunt. Preferably a higher level.

- Plan the hunt ahead: For low stamina go to the map where you're going to hunt and wait until the stamina bar is full.

- For limited BP spaces, If have items in BP (e.g. temporally Stam boost items) put them in AH for 1 hour before hand, so they end up in Item Mail box while you

hunt

-See if you can find out when a potion maker are making potions.

GREAT guide - I'll be linking to this post on our guild forums - definitely deserves a sticky, IMO. Best written guide for new players!

Very nice!, You did put optional but i don't think the Deflect, and LD are even all that important. Just get a trusted guild mate or a trusted friend to hold gold while you hunt. Preferably a higher level.

This is a very well made guide. You may need to update the plant prices as time goes, as their prices would likely to drop (especially if this guide gets many more into plant farming :P).

IMO, not everything has to be about maximising the profit, it’s more about fun & suiting one’s playing style. I choose to hunt when it’s the time of day I would play and my stamina are about to overflow, I usually have a set price I would sell, doesn’t matter if other are crushing the market or jerk up the prices, since price varies across the day and I mostly use FI-75/FI-250 allowing me to wait a bit.(yes FI-75 :), also no other Buffs like Conserve. as I said it’s more about fun and at least

The demand for plants will strongly affect your profit but fortunately you'll always end up making just about enough money to cover your expenses if you happen to farm at the wrong time.

never happened to me.)

Some of things I might add are:
--Plan the hunt ahead: For low stamina go to the map where you going to hunt and wait until the stamina almost flow;
--For limited BP spaces, If have items in BP (e.g. temporally Stam boost items) put them in AH for 1 hour before hand, so they end up in Item Mail box while you hunt;
--See if you can find out when a potion maker are making potions.

Other player(s) also farm in the same area at same time affects your profit as well.

Trinettle and Hefflewart are bought from shops and is not available from monster's drop. Also, the bit about getting attacked once an hour is wrong, you can be attacked multiple times an hour, just not by the same person.

Other than that Great Guide!

very nice guide.

I might add, if you're farming regularly, consider making a list for yourself of buyers who purchase from you regularly. Many of us are even willing to take plants as you get them if you keep track of how many and what type you're sending. This in turn allows you to get the 'fsp rate' that a buyer might offer with coin for any plants outside of the 'bulk' rate.

Check the buyer's profile for what they're looking for, and their going rates before you harvest. If you harvest regularly, keep track of how many plants you're averaging. If a buyer asks, and you can give them an estimate of how many plants to expect they might ask for your entire harvest.

*pros

- Don't have to worry about having gold on hand
- Don't have to deal with the marketplace value on gold:fsp
- Knowing you have a buyer
- Less strain on your backpack
- Buyer may offer to buff you with certain buffs that will help you maximize your harvest, saving you coin and stamina.

*cons
- Buyer(s) may not be online when you harvest. If you trust them to pay you when they're on, and don't mind waiting for the fsp however this isn't a big deal.
- Buyer(s) may not want the plants you're harvesting at the time - this is why having more than one buyer you work with regularly can be good.

Finding a Buyer tip:
Check who is selling the cheapest potions at 1 hour intervals. These players may be currently brewing or accepting plants. Knowing what potions require what plants is helpful for finding a buyer in this case.

Once I make it through xinderoth I'm investing points into the Inventing buffs to make use of my 90 component slots.

So I'll be buying very regularly.

You can remove the FI pots from the guides, you dont need them anymore, and if you use them with RF then they will actually prevent you from getting drops and clog your BP with jusnk

Now ....IMO the best buff combo for farming today is reckoning/AM/Cons/RF

The reson is that when reckoning kicks in you gain something

From AM/Cons you save stamina
From RF you get a higher chance of a drop
