#734563 Update v2.036

Posted by lawyergod on 14 May 2012 - 18:14 in General Discussion

What about GvG tournaments? Every 1-2 months, guilds could compete for top honors / FSP reward? The specifics could be worked out with some thoughtful polling / discussion.

ok so what about the guilds that put effort into GvG all the time? not just once a month? the guilds that are always on the top rated are the ones that deserve the recognition and whatever prizes......not those that show up at lap 99 of a 100 lap race and claim they are victorious.

I'm not sure I'd want to reward the respective Top guilds, since it's really hard for a new Guild to break into the Top 10 on any of the lists -- not like ANY of us are catching the Frackers -- but I think the GvG tournament idea has some merit. Each month, or week, or something like that, you could give a special reward to the best GvG Guild for that period, specifically. Still gives incentive to doing GvG without over-rewarding the Guilds already at the top of the heap.

#734561 Update v2.036

Posted by lawyergod on 14 May 2012 - 18:06 in General Discussion

I tried to defend a conflict based on the new rules, my target being a 792, well within the plus/minus 100 range for two 700-plus players. When I tried to attack, I was told that the level range was plus/minus 25, as with old conflicts; HOWEVER, the Logs then reflected that I was a participant in the conflict, as if the attack had gone through. Something is wrong here.

Can you please do a hard refresh and re-attempt this?

Ok, working now.

Ok, new issue. Now it says I'm capped at 25 hits, even though I'm the defender in this conflict.

#734555 Update v2.036

I honestly have no issues with the update. But, instead of changes to RP, changes to the rating system were needed. It's pointless almost to even be on the top rated list, bragging rights is nice, but who wants to spend 100's of FSP defending for bragging rights? I mean, do we do it? Yes, but that's only because that is the only thing that GvG conflicts are good for. Why not add some incentive to be competitive?? Extra RP gained daily for being the number 1, 2, and 3 guilds. Free buff packs, something. if any change like this is to be implemented though, a reset to the current rating would be needed.....a fresh start, a new beginning.

I'm not sure I agree with you, Pain, since there's ALSO no special reward for being on the Top Guilds list in terms of level, or richest. Nor is there a special bonus for PLAYERS on the Top lists ... other than medals. Which hearkens back to a point that several of us, myself included, have made on and off in other threads: I think there should be Guild medals.

#732813 PvP Prestige, GvG Prestige(?), and Medals

Posted by lawyergod on 02 May 2012 - 22:27 in General Discussion

I might be interested in this from a different perspective, then: that OF the non-PvP-er, or at least, one who doesn't participate actively and regularly. From what I've picked up from the Forums and discussions with friends, one of the goals of the Smasher medal was to entice players who don't regularly PvP to give it a shot -- and in at least one instance, in my Guild, it worked. If HCS wants to continue pursuing that goal, I think it might help to give an array of reward options for participating in PvP.

Currently, all there is is the Prestige buff for leveling (and/or "getting your level back"), Ladder rewards that can either be sold or used to invent stuff, or gold hits. These rewards STILL only entice a portion of the overall FS player base to participate, and if more were added, I think more would at least consider it. For instance, if Prestige could be used to activate Inventor II 200 or Extractor II 200 -- particularly useful since there are NO potions for these skills yet -- or Four Leaf 300, or something like that, it might be popular, and entice people who wouldn't normally PvP to engage in PvP for these rewards.

Or, better yet, participation in PvP could give rewards that are not (currently) available in the game at ALL. Something talked about in passing in the new thread was the possibility of a Titan Slayer skill, akin to SE Slayer. If this was a PvP reward, there would very likely be a spike in PvP (at least at the higher levels, since the new Titan is apparently a bitch to kill). Relatedly, if there was a PvP reward to raise Master Crafter above 100 percent (akin to buffs like Sharpen and Stalker), this could result in increased PvP at all levels, since ALL inventors could use a better chance of higher-craft items. (It would be particularly useful during an event like the recent Chomper invasion.) Or -- and INCREDIBLY unlikely -- if there was a PvP reward that gave a (slim) chance of getting multiple drops from a single creature kill, I think there would be a huge spike in PvP -- imagine getting TWO drops from a single Super Elite, for instance.

Just food for thought. I'm not sure all of my ideas are even good -- I floated the multiple drop idea in Guild chat before, and the reception was mixed -- but I do think that the overall idea of expanding PvP rewards, particularly from Prestige, to appeal to a wider range of players IS a good one.
