#884241 Doubler

Eh, OK, I was over the top there.  Here is my take again, with a bit better explanation.

My remembrance of Morby cursing out the scrubs was during some event where there was some drop that only he could reasonably get, so was being paid by all and sundry to get the drops.  Problem was, I guess it was PvP at the time, and the vial that gave him the attack or damage to get the drop didn't have the AC or HP bonus to keep adventurers at bay, so he was getting followed around by people looking for the big hit.  It seemed to me that is was a case of someone wanting it all their way, and not accepting that the very vials that let them earn speed/ easy levels could also be used against them.  Maybe I was wrong, it was long ago.

However, that is the thing that in my mind led to the downfall of the game.  I firmly believe Hoof turned away from us during an invasion.  I think it was the incend one.  Thinking back, I remember actually taking days of work to kill squiggles or what have you, and remember waiting for the hour to turn (well, hour plus five minutes), and bang, down comes the monsters, jump on them, and woah, need some poison something to kill 'em.  Frantic search, another half hour goes by, and someone finds some of the juice and the run is on.  I thought that was the pinnacle of the invasions, take a fun event that we all looked forward to, then throw a wrench in and make us think on our feet.  Fantastic!  So, time goes by, we check out the new drops, and Hoof shows up in the shoutbox, asking how we like everything.  Cue every complaint possible, from can't kill, to can't kill easily enough, doesn't drop often enough, needs better stats, you name it.  I think at that point there were maybe two or three of the five creatures that had been introduced.  I think Hoof got so pissed, that he made the drops the same for all the higher level invaders that came next, and we never saw him in an invasion again.

I think whining killed the game, or maybe HCS's mistake in listening to same and reacting too soon and too strongly.  Sure, I whined too, and I'm whining now.  Doubler, though?  With the many hundreds of percent boost in stats from vials and the truly egregious amount of xp some of the later monsters gave, I bet there were more levels gained from other impetuses.

Apologies for flying off the handle.  I was reminiscing sorrowfully along with the rest of you, with no real intent on posting, when I saw an opinion that clashed with my version of the events.  I directed my bitterness over the loss of the game at someone who may not have deserved it, and certainly not in that manner.

One thing  for sure that would have changed, I would not have left. I loved this game. LOVED it.  And was simply fighting to keep hoof from killing it.

You sad, self-delusional little man.

If by "fighting to keep hoof from killing it", you mean crying about anything that had a negative effect on your play, then you surely did.  You must remember caps locking us poor mortals when a new vial allowed us the opportunity to PvP the biggest warrior in the game.

Hey, they did wrong.  They still do wrong.  At time of writing, 82 are playing Gothic Ages, and Lord knows how many hundreds more were playing Gothador before the love left.  In fact, 22 are playing right now.

We all miss what was.  Why else would we be checking in, five years since this game had any relevance to the majority of us?

Anyways, take that "trying to keep hoof" tripe with you to whatever teen thrill online game you ended up at.  You were a problem, not a solution, and you'd best wait another five years before trying again.  Maybe by then we'll all have forgotten what a cretin Morby was.
