It'd be nice to see 1h weapons with sorcery (e.g. Magic Wands) , and possibly shields with sorcery.
One handed mage weapons

Of course we'd all like to see our favorite class made OP. But the concept of a mage is glass cannon. If you want durability, try another class. But adding a shield to a mage just feels wrong.
Now, if you're saying the mage is too glass, that there is a balance issue, that's a different case. I don't believe this is the case, though I don't play a mage so I'm basing this on a friend's opinion.
Meleager, ranger
Tuor, templar (Inactive)
Deimos, mage
Thangbrand, warsin (Mostly on vacation)
Bart, ??? (bene trades)

I wasn't trying to do so, although I admit +sorc shields would probably be OP. But 1h weapons by themselves are reasonable to use with an out of class shield.

Anybody can pick up a shield and use it, then start using Righteous Defense. Which is why I think that there aren't currently one-handed weapons for sorcerers. You'd only lose half of your sorcery bonus for weapon slots and still get to use a very good damage reduction ability. Instead of, say, having to take the longer route by getting the Redemption enhancement talents.
I don't think there should be any shields with +sorcery unless they're too light weight or something to meet the prerequisite for Righteous Defense. Cause that would just be crazy OP, especially in conjunction with one-handed +sorcery weapons.

Maybe a 1h -weapon + a Crystal Ball with some useful stats.
The ball could be crafted in Jewelry.

The 1-handed weapon of course should have much lower stats than the 2-handed weapon. Just like it is for Melee fighters.
Being able to wear two 1-handed weapons gives a little more options to choose which stats and DPS you would like your character to have.
Right now every 2-handed Sorcery weapon has Vitality, Sorcery and Focus as a ratio of 1:2:2. It is pretty boring to see, and there is no way to specialise.

This is a cool idea, and something we might do in the future to give people more options. I'm also thinking that shields should be slightly "nerfed" on rangers for better class balance. But we've a few more systems we want to get finished before the team can focus purely on balance.
As far as the boring item issue, stats on all items have been normalized while we work on finalizing game balance, so in the future items will be more "exciting" for sure.

1 handed Wand and Crystal Ball or how about an "Ethereal Shield" learned from a Rare Scroll, Not a quest reward, but you have to find it, and it's location is randomized among all the maps. Bound, points in Mage required, make it interesting.

Prophets have the same restrictions. I think I might try a more archetypal cleric and lose the sorcery bonus from a staff in favour of mace and board.

I love the idea of a 1h mage weapon (like a wand), but whatever is used in the shield/orb slot should add some ranged defense and have little to no melee defensive value at all. It can add to other common stats, but a wand and shield/orb combination should then have less common stats then a 2h weapon to compensate for any benefit gained from the 1h with shield/orb.
There should definitely be something gained for something lossed here, or else it becomes an OP class as stated above.
for example:
1h wand = 1/2 stats and 1 less slot than a 2h staff.
shield/orb = 1 slot and adds to ranged defense.
