So out of my curiosity I thought I’d create this poll. I was wondering how much people would be ok with bringing back the smasher to all 100 stam hits are counted? Instead of just voting and saying yes or no, I’d appreciate if you could also explain why it should or shouldn’t.

I say yes to this, because I think there are plenty of ways to protect yourself from the hits.  For example, XP Protect is one or PvP Protection or even Deflect.  Also not to mention honor is another buff that reduces the amount of xp lost.

To prevent the farming of “bunnies” I’d say add a time limit to when each hit would count to the smasher, and hits on players who haven’t logged in the past 7 days won't count. Now I know that’s not the original smasher medal, but it’s to prevent exploitation of the medal. The time limit could be 1 hit every 24 hours on player counts towards the smasher, but there will be no time limit and all hits would count for players on the Ladder or Bounty board. As for the suggestion of the possible restrictions, if the smasher was to come back, is to prevent the smasher from becoming meaningless.

Bringing back the smasher medal to all hits would not only liven up the bounty board, but increase PvP among players. I see this as a positive thing.

Thanks for reading and please tell me your opinions below for this is mine. Any suggestions and thoughts are welcomed!

*EDIT*- I don't remember the restrictions before it was Ladder & Bounty Board hits only, but regardless I believe those should be put on the medal.

I am all in favor of Restoring this Medal to it's original form.

The Restrictions for medal gains were implemented upon the medal's birth into game or it's creation. So no worries there those restrictions know or not are already in place for today's version of a weak limited Smasher Medal - it was nerf 'd  on day one due to so many people over reacting to it and HCS having a surge of tickets of people having panic attacks there for it was changed to what it now is today but I agree and I am in favor of restoring it to it's original form.

I don't remember all the restrictions before the smasher medal was changed to ladder & bounty hits only, so I threw those in. Thanks for the response though!

I'd like to see anything positive implemented towards pvping in the game.... as I'm a fighter/pvper at heart and would definately see your ideas being a positive thing that would liven up pvping again.... I remember the old days when I got smashed & I would smash back everyday! I miss those days of hard core smashing.... bring it on. I hope HCS see your post on here and does something like implement these ideas! it would definately be a positive thing! Let's keep pvping alive and kicking!

By obvious reasons for those who have a long term memory, I'd love to see the medal returned to what is was supposed to be (including the medal that was supposed to come along with it).

I voted for restrictions as well, seeing as the normal cool-down period inbetween hits needs to stay (to avoid abusers) and in my book, inactives should not count either.

I have to ask, is that medal really worth the potential loss of levelers in the game? All I can see happening is random hits that people will see as harassment when the PVPer comes back every 24hr tick. I know HCS catered to the levelers when everyone cried and sent in tickets during the medals' release. But one has to wonder if angering the major player base is worth changing the medal back.

I'm sure that played a big role in HCS changing the medal so fast anyway.

I honestly never seen what the PVPers found so enticing with hitting levelers in epic gear. What challenge is there to beat up on people that don't hit back or bother to buff/gear up? Wasn't this why the PVP Ladder was invented in the first place? To give people the challenge of fighting like-minded players that DO gear/buff up.

EDIT: I know this sounds anti-PVP but it's honestly how I see it. I'm all for reviving PVP if it means more players come back or keep playing the game. I just don't want to see an update that kills the small 500 daily playerbase we have now.

You know, Sometime the "old ways" are the "best ways" I think "yes" to the whole idea that Tehmelon has is fully favorable.... yes, with the cool down period, no need for abuse since there are plenty of people to hit. and no the inactives should not count... what fun is that anyway? in any instance count me in!

I see where you are coming from, but that leveler has 24 hours to switch to a decent offline gear.  More time can be added to the hits, but 24 hours seems a good amount of time to me. Like I stated above PvP Protection, XP Protect, etc. can be bought to prevent or reduce xp loss. There are plenty of things you can do to ward off attackers, not taking those steps just shows you don't care if you are hit.

To be honest, I really don't care if I get hit anymore. I used to always hit back when I could but then I stopped caring about the virtual numbers that EXP are. There's really no reason for me to get hit when I'm in stam-gain mode...If someone manages to catch me on the 1hr hunt and steals gold then more power to them. However I know most of the levelers don't have this same mindset and just throw a tantrum when they see red exp losses.

So yeah, I'm kind of thinking about the global player base here.

The only issue I see with it is new players.  They are currently given protection for a short while so they can become adjusted to the game mechanics.  If the Smasher is returned to all hits then I can see some players trying to get their medal from new players as soon as the protection drops off.  Going from no pvp to getting hammered is not the way to introduce the new players to the pvp aspects of the game.  I think there needs to be some graduated way to introduce pvp to new players in a positive manner.

I too would love to see it go back...earned my BRONZE the very hours it came out, hitting those in my range..and i was living on the BB just as they changed it to Bounty hits and ladder only.  Restrictions would be no inactives and cool down of course!  i vote a huge YES!!  tho this is on  a different thread....the BB was "over active" back then...i see it a win win!!!

The original smasher implementation caused a catastrophic drop in online numbers, which the game never regained. I remember 200+ in one day that never came back - but my memory could be faulty. HCS have the data.

For this reason I think HCS will not touch the smasher medal with a bargepole.

I voted no because the smasher was the worst single event in maintaining game numbers in the game's history - to repeat the experiment is foolishness now. In another thread I suggested reopening it - that was not a serious suggestion - I should have put in sarcasm filters.

Good-bye and hello, as always.

200+ players stopped playing after 48 hours? PvP must be a whole lot of evil..

this is the timeline of the Smasher medal..

March 28th - implemented > March 29th - 24 hour in game poll to keep/remove Smasher Medal and Top Rated > March 30th - Smasher Medal nerf'd to only include BB/Ladder hits..

What a trial run...

New to PvP and finally loving this game again (from mere like), I thought of leaving the smasher medal as is, but opening up a level-based pro-rated adjustment to allow lower levels to take shots at higher levels.  The Cows know the gear stat total, so mathematically this should be doable...and a hell of alot of fun for ALL!

....but I'd also be in favour of the old Smasher medal system too...there ARE many ways to sink gold via protection.  However, if they slip and forget to protect during a hunt......

My 2 cents

Nothing in that denies the fact that online numbers dropped like a stone and did not bounce back.

It remains one of the big what if's in game history. What would have happened if the smasher medal had remained as it was then - would it have become an accepted part of the game? We'll never know. Does this mean the experiment should be tried again? I simply do not believe it is worth the risk.

Let HCS comment on it - they have the actual data and can set me/my memory right.

I doubt they dropped like a stone because 48 hours of active PvP happened.. Ruby medals came out the same day as the Smasher Medal, i don't see how online activity dropped because the ruby medals alone would of kept them high. New additions to the game always boost numbers, even more so during ones that reward activity

Plus numbers drop for a number of reasons, not just one..

Wasn't this why the PVP Ladder was invented in the first place? To give people the challenge of fighting like-minded players that DO gear/buff up.

It is, but have you seen the ladder recently? It's not a "pvp" ladder anymore, it's a place people go to farm up ticks for their dominance medal.

So out of my curiosity I thought I’d create this poll. I was wondering how much people would be ok with bringing back the smasher to all 100 stam hits are counted? Instead of just voting and saying yes or no, I’d appreciate if you could also explain why it should or shouldn’t.

*EDIT*- I don't remember the restctions before it was Ladder & Bounty Board hits only, but regardless I believe those should be put on the medal.

I vote yes to pretty much all of this.

The game thrived for a few years under the original PvP system. Then changes happened to it and it became the ladder.
