Mission Overview

You feel warm. A reassuring background hum murmurs quietly in the distance. You open your eyes and see a room of red light. A voice echoes within your mind, 'Link established - Can you hear me?'

The voice continues, 'That's good, first you must learn how to navigate the environment. Around the frame of the Mini-Map you will find the Arrow Tabs Posted Image. Clicking these will allow you to move yourself 1 step. Move directly South and find the Blue Marker within the next room.'

As you move through the world, your footsteps make a gentle hissing sound. Before you on the floor is a large Blue Marker.

You step on the Blue Marker and a bell chimes in the air. The voice echoes in your mind, 'Good, you take instruction well. Below the Mini-Map you will find a row of buttons. These are called the 'Quick Links', a pop-up will appear if you hover your mouse pointer over these Quick Link buttons.

Find the 'Open Area Map' button and click it. This will open an overview of the entire region. The Area Map is very useful for finding locations of interest within your surroundings. Using the Area Map find the Green Marker and move to it.'

In a small room you discover a large Green Marker.

As soon as you step on the Green Marker a bell chimes softly in the air. The voice echoes in your mind, 'The Area Map is useful for finding locations which are important. Generally such locations are essential to finding and completing missions.

You can review your current mission progress by clicking the Character Tab in the Main Menu, then open the Mission Log. The Mission Log will list all the missions you have discovered.

The missions you have completed are marked with a 'Tick'. The Missions which you still have to do are marked with a 'X'. The current mission "Orientation" will be shown here and the stages you have completed may be reviewed. Use the Map to find the Location Instructor.'

The Location Instructor stands before you on a low platform.

The Instructor smiles at you, 'To the right of the Mini-Map you will find “The Location Details”, this is a list of all the actions that may be done in the square that you are standing in.

Travel south and find the Initialize Store. Step onto the square that the store is in and click the Browse Shop Icon to enter the shop.

The Icon can be found in the Location Details to the left of the Store Name. When you are in the Store buy a Trade Icon, and return to me when you have done this.'

You receive 1 credit.

The Locations Instructor waits silently for you to return, 'Have you acquired a Trade Icon from the Initialize Store?'

The Instructor takes the Trade Icon from you. 'Well done. Another action that you can do in a Location is to use a “Stairway” to the next Area.

Go to the room West of the Initialize Store and find the stairway to the next Area. Use the Stairway to get to the next stage of your mission.

When you have entered the next Area look for a Yellow Marker to complete your Orientation.'

As you step through the door of light you are transported to another Area. In the small room a large Yellow Marker pulses gently.

The bell chimes softly as you activate the Yellow Marker. The voice whispers in your mind, 'If you look to the right of the Mini Map just above the Location Details – you will find the Area name.

You will see that this Area is called Initialize (Stage 2). Every Area has a unique name. The co-ordinates of your current location are also shown next to the name, it's always useful knowing where you are.

You now know how to move, find locations of interest using the Area Map, use a shop to trade and use a Stairway to move to another Area. Congratulations, you now completed your Orientation. Please find the Item Dispenser for your next Mission.'

You receive 10 XP.

Mission Overview

Before you is a low platform, a ghostly figure hovers over it, 'I am the Combat Instructor. Are you ready to learn how to fight?'

The Combat Instructor tilts her head slightly, 'Direct, I like it. Just one thing to mention before we get into it.

One of the most important Attributes a Character has, is it's 'Energy'. It takes 1 Energy to take a step, and 1 Energy to make an attack.

The Energy your Character has, is shown by the 'Energy Pulse' counter in between the Sigmastorm name plate and the Tip Box at the top right of the screen. You can mouse-over the pulsing light to get the pop-up that details all aspects of your Characters Energy.

For a quick summery, the counter just below the Energy Pulse shows how much Energy is currently available to you. At the start you get 500 Energy.

Go through the door into the next Area and meet me there.'

The Combat Instructor hovers before you, 'Are you ready?'

'Just right of the Mini-Map are the 'Location Details', this is a list of all actions which are available to do on the square you are currently standing in. If there is an enemy Entity on the square, they will be listed in the Location Details.

To review the Entity Stats, simply click on the 'View Entity' icon next to it's name. To attack the Entity click the 'Cross Hair'.

Note: if you get killed you are instantly re-cloned at the nearest Cloning Facility.

Also it would be a good idea to visit the shop and purchase some Health Stims when you have some Credits. Click on the Area Map to find where the Shop is.

After you have killed 3 Combat Sprites return to me.'

The Combat Instructor hovers before you, 'Have you killed 3 Combat Sprites?'

The Instructor claps her hands, 'That's excellent. Did you notice that your health has not regenerated after combat? Its a good idea to have a store of Health Stims with you. These can be bought in any Shop.

Now you fought the Combat Sprites with your hands. Take this Nightstick. You must equip it like you did the Armor. Also any items you gained from the Combat Sprite might be worth a look at.

After you have equipped the Nightstick, go kill 10 more Combat Sprites and return to me. You will see a difference in your combat effectiveness.'

You gain 1 x Nightstick

The Combat Instructor hovers before you, 'Have you killed 10 more Combat Sprites?'

The Combat Instructor shimmers slightly, 'I take it that you killed the Combat Sprites much easier with the Nightstick? Items provide effective bonuses to your character. If you are having difficulty in killing an Entity, look to see if there is any new equipment that you can acquire. Shops are a good place to look first.

Remember that you can see all the locations of interest from the Area Map Quick button.

Also note that every time you enter combat your equipment can get damaged, and their durability is reduced. When equipment durability is damaged, the bonuses given by the equipment is also reduced. At the Mechanic you can repair equipment for a Credit cost and this will fix the equipment and will also restore all the bonuses to it's full potency. It is important to do this regularly.

You may now proceed through the door into the next realm. You will find the Skills Instructor. When you enter a new Area, remember to use Open Area Map quick link to find the Instructor and other important locations.'

You gain 11 Xp

-12. Click 'YES' to proceed.
-13. Mission Completed!

Proceed to Glowing Figure at coordinates 14,14 in Data Store.

Posted Image

Mission Overview

Hidden in the corner of the Data Store you find a softly glowing figure hovering over a low platform.

The figure crackles for a second, 'Yes, I am the Skills Instructor. I'm sorry but the system has been attacked by a virus called The Creeper. I have no time to explain.

The Creeper has stolen the Token so the Network cannot communicate properly. Please retrieve the Token and insert it back into the Network Switch. Return to me if you succeed, I shall then continue your Instruction.'

The Data Switch crackles with power, a shield of light spins around, preventing any unauthorized access. Only Tokens are allowed through the Data Switch.

You insert the orb of purple light into the Data Switch. Light immediately begins to pulse from the base of the pillar of light as the Token is sent around the Network. Your job is now complete.

You should return to the Skills Instructor.

The Skills Instructor hovers before you over a low platform, 'Have you restored the Token back into the Network Switch yet? I'm sure The Creeper stole the Token if you haven't found it.'

The ghostly figure smiles at you, 'Thank you for your help. The Network is now working again. What you see before you is not “real”, it is a Virtual Reality simulation to allow you to orientate properly before delivery to the customer. Unfortunately this facility has been suffering some technical difficulties, and has received no invoice from the customer stating receipt of the previous Units that have been delivered.

The mainframe has deduced that the customer is simply not satisfied with the product, and has provided additional units to fill the order. Customer satisfaction is our primary concern after all. To add value to our product we are now adding default skills to each unit.

I have now allocated 5 Skill points to you. You may allocate these to the desired skills. This will give variety to the customer. Talk to me again to find out how to allocate your skill points. The decision is very important, and requires deep consideration.'

You recieve 5 Skill points.

The Skills Instructor shimmers with a golden light, 'Do you wish to know how to allocate you Skill Points?'

To allocate your skill points, click the 'Character Tab' found in the Main Menu, then click the Skills link which will take you to the Skills page. On the Skills Page you will find a list of the “Core” skills available to you.

Core Skills are important as they are available to all characters. Above the Core Skills list you will find 5 buttons. These are the class buttons, there are four classes to choose from. These are Mutant, Soldier, Purist and Cyborg. To choose a class you must buy the Primary Skill for that Class.

Note: When a Primary Skill has been selected, all other classes become locked - so you must choose VERY carefully! There is a free skill reset available in the Upgrades Page if you feel you have made a mistake. This free reset can only be chosen once. Further Skill re-sets must be payed for with Flux Crystals.

To get a summary of the four classes look at the Holograms in the adjoining room just south of here. Return to me when you have looked at the Holograms.'

The Skills Instructor hovers before you, 'Have you looked at the Holograms?'

'When you have chosen the Primary Skill for your chosen class, all the skills in that class will become available to you as long as you are the required level. When you purchase a skill they can be activated on your self or other players. It costs Energy to use a skill so be careful when using them.

Also some class items will require a specific skill and points invested in that skill to use. Please note, that this simulation has not been programed with class specific weaponry and armor.

In the top right corner under the Tip Window you will find your Skill Power Bar, you accumulate skill power after you have defeated Entities. You are able to activate your Class Skills with the power from this bar. There is no rush in choosing your Class, so take your time. You have now finished your Skills training.'

You recieve 36 Xp

-14. Click 'Yes' to proceed.
-15. Click 'Insert Relay' to proceed.
-16. Mission completed!

Proceed to Digital Dog at coordinates 2,9 in Databank (Beta).

Posted Image

Mission Overview

A glowing figure waves at you.

The figure looks very like the Instructors you have met, only far more animated. 'I'm sorry to bother you, but I have a problem. In Databank (Alpha) the data structure has suffered indirect damage from the Creeper infestation here in the Data Store. Energy Spikes are running all over the place.

Can you please see if you can fix it, they have to be coming from somewhere in Databank (Alpha).

I can't Search the Databank with all those Spikes running wild. They will reduce me to bits if they touch me.'

A tall monolith stands before you, bolts of electricity arc from it's surface onto the floor and walls.

There is a view screen in the center of the the Data Node. The screen shows a system error, where a diagnostic button flashes. You press the button and a small cube materializes in front of you. 'Diagnostic program initiated . . . Diagnostic complete. This Data Node has suffered a Power Surge which has shorted the inner relays. The Data Node is off-line at this time and is leaking Energy Spikes in the local area.

Please re-insert a new Power Relay. If you do not know how to make a Power Relay please select the appropriate Help from the view screen.' The Small cube vanishes from sight.

A shorted Data Node towers in front of you. In the center of a large View Screen a Help button flashes.

The Help button blinks momentarily as you select it. A small cube materializes in front of you, 'Diagnostic Help Selected.

To construct a Power Relay first take this Blueprint. It will appear in your Back Pack, click the Blueprint icon to learn how to construct a Power Relay. When you have learnt the Blueprint it will vanish from your back pack, to examine the Blueprint you will need to visit an Assembly Plant.

When you enter an Assembly Plant the Blueprints you know will be listed. Clicking on the Power Relay Blueprint will show the components needed to construct the item.

The Diagnostic knows that the Fused Switch Part can be found in the Shop in the Databank (Alpha). The Surge Vector Component needs to be extracted from the Hertz Matrix resource. Thankfully the Hertz Matrix is essential to the Energy Spikes internal structure.

Please destroy 10 Energy Spikes as well as collect a Hertz Matrix and Fused Switch. Return when you have completed these tasks.

You recieve 1 x Power Relay Blueprint

The Diagnostic Cube hovers just in front of you, 'Have you destroyed 10 Energy Spikes and retrieved a Hertz Matrix from it, as well as bought a Fused Switch from the Data Field shop?'

The Cube shimmers, 'The Hertz Matrix Resource will be listed in your Back Pack. To extract the Surge Vector Component simply click on the Hertz Matrix Resource.

The Hertz Matrix will be dismantled, the Surge Vector will then appear in your components area of your Back Pack. Only then will you have the items necessary to make the Power Relay.

Go to the Binary Assembly Plant, there you can access the blueprints you have learned. Assuming you have the right components and credits available, you can use them to make new items.

When you have constructed the Power Relay an alert will appear informing you that your item is ready for collection in your Mailbox. Retrieve the Power Relay from your Mailbox on the left hand side of the interface, then return here and insert it into the shorted Data Node.'

The Diagnostic Cube spins on an unseen axis, 'Have you acquired the Power Relay?'

The sparks from the Data Node vanish, 'The Data Node is now fully operative. Thank you for your help. I have now been authorized to give you this Shocker Touch Weapon Add-On and 35 Credits.'

You receive 50 Xp + 1 Shocker Touch + 35 Credits

Huh? I'm not stealing your views, your advice is different.. it's about level ups and stat point placement etc., whereas mine is a simple go here and do this and follow directions. Besides, I was planning to link this thread to both your thread and Thoran's 'what item extracts what component' thread.

I've just pruned this thread because it would be a shame to lock and move a ?valuable? resource.

I have no idea how I completed these incredibly easy missions without someone holding my hand
this guide adds very little, if anything, beyond what is already present in game text as you complete the missions
I believe the point of these initial missions is to orient new players to the game construct and basic controls
a guide for these simple missions is insulting to players and conditions them to rely on guides as they complete later missions
I appreciate your desire to "help" new players, but it is my opinion this guide does more harm than good

Anakiro,
I found this thread post-pruning so I am not familiar with the comments that you objected to, however, I sincerely hope you do
not misconstrue the above commentary as offensive. This type of demeaning guide has a real potential to turnoff and turn
away players from this game. Please allow the player community the opportunity to voice our opposition to posts that may
undermine the integrity of this thoroughly wondrous game.

Thank you

Hi,

I'm in complete disagreement with Aranka. I encountered many players who were confused as to "how to" function in the game. Many of us are accustomed to HCS games, such as Fallen Sword, so playing this game, jumping through the hoops of quests, is easy for us. However, there are many who are not familiar with this game format. As the initial missions are to assist players in learning the ropes, I see absolutely nothing wrong with providing a guide, even if said guide is a replication of materials garnered by "pursuing" the quests.

I will agree with Aranka on one point: Sorry Jade Dreams, but you cannot claim copyrights on images obtained by screen capture of an HCS-owned game. The rights belong to them. Providing an unofficial guide is a courtesy to the players, which HCS has so far deemed acceptable. So, essentially, HCS is "allowing" players to create unofficial guides with graphic/written content obtained from their games. I.e., it is by their permission, stated or unstated.

Thanks for the efforts and hope to see more quality guides from you in the future.
