I'd prefer this thread not degenerate into an "it's not fair, the classes aren't equal" argument. Thanks!
Here is a list of current classes, what they have to offer, and how to obtain them (note that you must be a supporter to become a new class):
Human Class
Simple, boring, you. This how you are born into the world of Gothador, naked and helpless.
Extra Benefits:
- Can heal and seek sanctuary in hospitals.
- For the noncommittal types - you're not stuck with one class, and can wait to see which you like best.
Note on Changing Classes:
Reversion quests are now available. Check the Quests section, and the Guild of Wisdom website, for details.
Vampire Class
'Bloodsuck' skill and 2000xp
Sacred Stone Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Being able to complete the Dark Destiny quest
- Can obtain the Vampyric Rejuvination skill (HP+5 per hour)
- Shopping at the class-specific Vampyr Blades, Gothador (13,78 )
- Can become a Demon
- Awesome-looking pink... er, purple ... magenta (?) icon.
- Can heal and seek sanctuary in graveyards.
- Can use the Death Ray spell.
Monk Class
'Hurt' & 'Heal' skills, 5000xp
Enlightenment Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Can become an Angel
- Can complete the Light Destiny quest
- Can act holier-than-thou with justification
- Can use the Holy Blast spell.
- Can heal and seek sanctuary in hospitals.
Undead Class
+10 DEF, +20 HP, 'Unholy Terror' skill and 15,000xp
Unholy Darkness Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Can heal and seek sanctuary in graveyards.
- Shopping at the class-specific Fire Crypt, Mt. Braskin (98,46).
- No need to wear deoderant.
Elf Class
30,000xp, +20 Atk, +20 MP, 'Cloak' skill and the 'Revive' skill
Elven Charms Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Can seek sanctuary in forests.
- Immune to the Death Ray and Holy Blast spells.
- Cay use the Holy Blast spell
- Shopping at the class-specific Elven Trader, Mt. Braskin (3,75)
Greenskin Class
20,000xp, +30 ATK, 'Thump' skill
Water Clan Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Can seek sanctuary and heal in Orcish Camps.
- Immune to the Death Ray and Holy Blast spells.
- Can complete the Orcish Kin quest.
- Good excuse to talk like the Incredible Hulk now: "Me smash! Me crush puny little elf skulls! Me thump you hard!"
Demon Class
+10 HP, + 10 ATK, +10 DEF, a Demonic Teleport scroll, 10,000 xp
Demonic Prowess Quest
Must become a Vampire first.
Extra Benefits:
- Can heal, recharge mana and seek sanctuary in hellgates.
- Can use the Death Ray spell.
- Being ugly is okay.
Angel Class
+20 Def, +10 HP, Angelic Shift scroll, 10,000 xp
Must become a Monk first.
Divine Transcendence Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Can heal, recharge mana and seek sanctuary in heaven gates.
- Can use the Holy Blast spell.
- Well, what's not to love about an angel? Don't hate me cuz I'm beautiful!
Dark Elf / Drow Class
Critical Hit skill, Scroll of Shadows, 10,000 xp
Must become an Elf first.
Nefarious Orbs Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Can seek refuge in forests
- Can use the Death Ray spell
- Can complete the Elven Summoner quest.
- Immune to the Death Ray and Holy Blast spells
Transcendent Class
Summoner Skill, Summon Wisp Scroll, 1,000,000 xp
Must become an Angel first.
Angelic Starlight Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Can seek refuge in heaven gates
Greater Demon Class
Summoner skill, Summon Imp Scroll, 1,000,000 xp
Must become a demon first.
Demonic Intent Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Can seek refuge in Hellgates
Necromancer
Summoner skill, Summon Skeleton Scroll, 1,000,000 xp
Must become undead first.
Nefarious Orbs Quest
Extra Benefits:
- Can seek refuge in graveyards.
- Can complete the Necrotic quest.
- Can use the Dark Phase spell.
Warlord
Summoner skill, Summon Ogre Scroll, 1,000,000 xp
Must become a greenskin first.
War Cry
Extra Benefits:
- Can seek refuge in Orcish Camps.

The Warrior Class
The warrior class specializes in hand-to-hand combat, bolstering his strength and damage, while sacraficing his magical abilities.
Min Dmg: +25%
Max Dmg: +25%
HP: +50%
AC: +25%
MP: -75%
Spell Max Lvls: -50%
The Mage Class
The mage class specializes in magic abilities, causing extreme damage with spells, while becoming weaker at sustaining physical damage.
HP: -50%
AC: -75%
MP: +100%
Spell Max Lvls: +100%
Spell Casting Exp: +100%
The Miner Class
The miner class specializes in mining and smelting. They are the masters of the pickaxe, finding most ore easy to extract and smelt.
Atk: -50%
Def: +50%
Mining Lvl: +200%
Smelting Lvl: +200%

Although not a skill you get right off the bat, I would throw Vamp Rejuv in with the list of benefits to Vamps. That extra 5 HP regen is nice.

- Bloodsuck: drain 1 HP from Humans and Vamps, gain 1 HP
- Vampyric Rejuvination: regenerate 5 HP per hour
- Heal: heal Humans and Monks
- Hurt: damage Undead and Vamps
- Unholy Terror: 50% chance that a hit against you is actually a miss
- Cloak: you can't be located using locate skill
- Revive: regenerate 20 HP & MP per hour
- Demonic Teleport: jump from your square to any square up to your teleport lvl +1 (Spell, 10 MP)
- Angelic Shift: jump from your square to any square up to your shift lvl +2 (Spell, 10 MP)
Elves cannot heal in a Forest... they can only seek sanctuary there
Next-Lvl Classes keep all benefits of pre-requisite class

Once you are one of a Basic or Next-Level class, can you turn back a step or back into a human?

it's my understanding that the elf and undead classes skip the basic status and go strait to "next-level"
I've seen people call it that.. but not known whether thats the official stance. Also I've heard a bit of noise about a dark elf class so I'm keeping my options open as there ain't nothing cooler than a darkelf im holding off on elf just in case it's a totally seperate thing.. it would have to be well worth giving up on the ap savings of teleport though..

Monks can find santuary in hospitals, Angels, Heaven Gates, Vampires, and undead in graveyards, Demons in Hell Gates, and elves in forests although they can't heal there. I'm assuming that necro's will probably rejuv in Hell Gates, but you never know. As to your teleport question I'm not sure about that as I read my scroll but I do know that some of the sub-class warriors aren't reading their scrolls when they become angels or demons so the answer could easily be found out.

Or to put it differently: if they cannot - why have I never seen a demon or angel standing inside a hospital (they should be visible if there is no shelter after all). On the other hand, answering my own question, why would they ever go there...

All classes may "hide" in hospitals, as hoof has coded it so that nobody is visible on hospital squares (this was due to the fact that dozens, if not hundreds, of people tend to clog up hospitals, esp. during dark clouds, making it quite unpleasent for the server to visit). However, only Humans & Monks can heal there.

In case you're wondering what the Thump skill entails, here the description on the Guild of Wisdom website:
"Multiplies your usual DMG with one hit, but reduces your chances of hitting. Costs 2 AP to use."
Somebody with DMG of 250 was hitting for up to 450 DMG with the Thump skill.
