I say everyone should be entitled to 1 name change...this solves everyones problem not everyone is going to like their username 10 years from their join date...people grow up, change interest etc...1 name change is fair and how it should be...as for the whole thieves/scammers etc...thats your own problem thats what STing is for...also nothing wrong with starting over for those who play dirty people change and mature

Let it slide? No way!
Either the rules are for all of us or I want to know why one/some are over it.

See what happens when "not gonna happen not ever" turns into "well just this once"? Now this thread has been turned into people trying to "vote" for getting name changes due to reasons such as "people grow up". HCS has said in the past (many times, since as long as I've been here) that name changes will not happen, and have valid reasons for having that policy. Now an exception has been made, and so it opens the door for others wanting to do the same. Tell me, if someone changes their name, does "ignore list" still affect it? What about a "name history" so we can see who that person used to be? Some people do NOT change themselves, and changing their name will not help that.

I know I agree. But HCS have changed the rules and must know that *slaps their wrists*Let it slide? No way!

I prefer if people never change the names. Sorry about that guys but I find finding people easier as I've memorised so many names and messing that up would be nightmarish. I don't want that rule in what so ever :/ it's like xbox live as someone changes their gamer tag and unless they tell you who it is, your sat there wondering who the hell that is.
Like I said I agree and an answer should be given. But unless they have a really fair and reasonable answer (doubt it) then people will never forget it a always request for the rules to broken.

Just to be the grinch here, I disapprove of this ...
Plenty of players have historically asked for a name change - and been categorically refused by the cows. Sometimes, these requests were just to fix an in-haste spelling mistake, but still denied. Same with spelling mistakes in guild names ...
Now that this can of worms has been opened, I hope name/guild changes that are just spelling mistake ones will be looked at favorably ?
(I still agree with refusing to change names to something completely different - for whatever reason that may be)
Have any player asked to temporarily change their name in the past, with makeing a community event of it as a reason and not personal reasons? I don't think so! But it was expected some kinds would complain about it...
I did not know you could change your username, I asked HCS if I could slightly change mine (without the "4ever") and was told that usernames are permanent
the ability to completly change your user name can be abused and do lots of damage resulting in many problems for the game
what happens if everyone can change his user name and you do not know who the previous user was? some guilds do not let certain players like thieves, personal reason, ... into their guild but are then unable to differentiate who that player "really" is and even harm the guild (he was on bad terms with the guild) by for example: leaking guild info, recalling composing & normal potions and using them, .......
I think it is a very bad idea to let players change their USER-name and it might lead to confusion (not knowing who that player really is) and problems !!!
His name is not permanent. Can you go and make an event for players and ask for a temporarily name change for that event first before saying hcs never been allowing this. Because that is a lie because noone made this kind of request in the past.

You're splitting hairs here ... name changes have always been on the "never gonna happen" list. Temporary or permanent is irrelevant ..

Eddie Izzard : The National Rifle Association say that guns don't kill people, people do. But I think the gun helps, you know ? I think it helps. I think just standing there going "BANG" - that's not going to kill too many people, is it ?
I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but it seems that everything I eat lately turns to poo ...

Temporary or permanent for what reasons, if irrelevant or not, is not for you to decide.
Anyway, he just requested to have his name back now because of you haters. Great!

Can I be the Easter Bunny at Easter time then? No legitimate reason as to why I could not, if denied it will be blatant hypocrisy...

Hi there.
This was a one off change because the player asked for a temporary change for Christmas. I thought it was cute so agreed. It's in the spirit of Christmas. You know? That time of good cheer? Peace on Earth? All that stuff? Good will to all?
In any event, thanks to feedback from the Community, we have now reversed the name and the player has his original name back.
Our position on name changing stands. We will not offer it as a service.
