It may be that bots are all low level because I have been gathering for months and never seen a bot. Even when I gather low level resources (copper for example) in Nidaros -- no bots. IMO these threads about bots and botting are all waste of time.

What server are you on?  I would guess botters tend toward lower population.  What time?  Would they try it at the busiest times?

Even if we don't have them, they plague every major MMO I've ever heard of.  Being optimistic about the games future, it makes sense to consider solutions to a problem that, even if it's minimal now,  we know we will have.

Anyway, I did see one so can confirm they exist.  Not sure how pervasive the problem is, that's only one since game release.  On the other hand I doubt I would recognize a sophisticated bot.  Either way I'm sure the conversation would have died out if people stopped seeing them.

as it stands, it seems to me that the punishment for botting is too lenient, a jail term of 3-5 days, or whatever it is, is absolutely rubbish, anyone found botting should be account banned end of story, instead, they can get jailed and still play with an alt, then after the jail term, start botting again, cheats should be simply banned altogether and players that suspect botters should notify a dev asap or send a support ticket, if a dev is online, simply /w them to take a look at xxxx player, if a dev isn't online, take a screenie, or better still a vid and send to support, the only way we're going to eradicate cheaters is by notifying HCS staff of the person suspected of botting and let them decide if the said player is or isn't a bot.If account bound seems too harsh, then a character wipe, putting all alts of said botters back to level 1 in character and skills and also remove any and everything they have including talent points, attribute points and any armour/resources or anything at all in their inventory/backpack after all they didn't exactly work for it, so they won't be upset at losing it, or at least shouldn't be, other than that, we are always going to have bots in this game and no amount of complaining is going to change anything, it's up to us as honest players to report suspect behaviour and let the devs decide the best course of action.

The only problem is that someone might be raging and takes screenshots of half-AFKing newbies... A way to "ban appeal" should be implemented. If someone have been suspected, don't warn him, just get enough proof for a ban. Usually bots bot for hours so you got time to start recording software and vid a 10min vid about you spamming to a bot that mines MULTIPLE nodes.  (Well, if someone spams "Are you a bot???" right in front of a bot and the bot mines multiple nodes and doesn't notice him/her that would be enough proof IMO)(If you take a screenshot about you asking a bot: "are you a bot?" you don't got enough proof IMO as he could just be AFK)

well, i play since last December and till now i discovered only 2 100% botters(was unlike oops GM in another MMORPG)

one was L32 and fishing brass and the other was at kasamba pass harvest elmor with L 16

(we have a real player, who is L11 and prosp42,but he IS real)

all player on TERRA know both well and it was supported very often

the last one is now in jail, but IMHO this isnt the proper punishment

to avoid botters, cheaters, exploiters it should be a perma account ban

and not a silly jail timeout

Something like random events woudl be nice to lower the repetitive boredom of crafting/gathering.

Basically:

A chance to find a small amout of money -coin pouch- randomly while doing Foraging, Prospecting, Fishing, Crystal Cutting and Forestry.

A very small chance to get hit by your own tool -lowers a bit your hp- this would be to wake up some people.

While doing Farming, Foraging and Forestry you might have a small chance to get stung by bees -lowers a bit your hp-.

A low chance to get a knowledge rush in both gathering/crafting so the next item that you gather/craft gives double exp.

A small chance to get a container during fishing that might give a random item or some money.

A small chance to get seeds back after harvesting your plot (Farming).

An extremelly rare chance during gathering to get an egg of any kind that later on might be hatched to get a pet.

A low chance to critically craft a piece of gear -slightly increases the main stat of the crafted item-.

The whole point for this is to make gathering/crafting less repetitive and boring (as it can be at high levels), and to attract players further into these activities, as theres people that see crafting and gathering just as time wasters.

So someone actually come up with a idea many of you have repelled. This idea could be tweaked to a 'bot solution' for now.

You could get attacked by bees wherever you are and you would have to run away from them. To survive this bots would need to be more complex, people wouldn't use simple bots as autoclick or bots that repeat some moves again and again. With a higher step to begin bot, HCS has time to check the few bots.

The general idea could work.  But just having a mob attack (bees or otherwise) does not work, as it would ruin gathering for legitimate players.  Especially for those of use who read/watch movies/whatever while gathering.  To make this work, at the very least, requires giving the player time to set up for the attack, as well as compensation for the time lost due to the mob.

This variation on your suggestion might work
