Post here sets you should not get so we can warn other players... 1st set that you shouldn't get is Eribor... I know gnarled and Burning are bad as well(just get girath)... Any others? I say skip rooted and flamed all together... I liked flamed but it only lasted for 1 level. I am going to say that you should avoid these... (These might be good in pieces)

Frost Giant(100)
Cracked Lava(100)
Galdwing(62)
Hellfire(53) (use gloves)
Cerberus(50)
Flamed(45)
Rooted(44)
Carnage(41)
Gnarled(35)
Burning(34)
Majestic Elven(30)
Nightshade(28 )
Blood Demon(22)(because plague is now here...)
Giggles (19)
Eribor(13)
Frostbite(4)(infernus pawns it at level 5 :))

Now will have a list of the best sets.

Xelphus(159)
Jahd(145)(please correct me)
Mancrusha(120)
Weager(115)
Aleos(105)(if you can't afford Deep)
Deep(80)
Darklore(77)
Henz(65)
Khale(59)
Yeltz(55)
Kragh(45)
Zhann(38
Fire Dragon(35)
Girath(30) (It starts to beat Fire Dragon sets at 41)
Exquisite Elven(26)
Plague(20)
Frost Dragon(15)
Nomad(12)
Infernus(5)

Any others?

although, remember that individual items of the set may be good... for instance the sword of the burning set is good...

Another set you want to avoid is Rooted, I think. There's nothing bad about it, except that it really hits on defense, while Flamed (which is level 45, and Rooted is 44) ups attack, damage, and armor. Rooted is boots and armor, Flamed is boots, armor, and rune...

khale is very bad, it only gives on attack and damage

That's why it's on my list of the best sets in the game!

I'd argue that Rooted is the better, or, at the very least, it isn't inferior. It takes up fewer spaces, therefore you can integrate a different rune (rune of pain for example at 46) for a bit more of a boost. It is also relatively less expensive but the numbers are so close for poor crafted rooted and good crafted flamed that it is more economical to get the rooted.

Here's why:

Rooted (poor rating) Possible to obtain for under 5fsp if you shop around

free spaces for equip : 7 (filled - main/boots)
_________________

att 238 when switch to rune pain 220
def 137
arm 143
hp 35
dam 184 when switched to rune pain 230
----------

Flamed (average to good rating)- approx 8 or more fsp depending on time of day
free spaces for equip: 6 (filled - main/boots/rune)

att 240
def 112
arm 177
hp 26
dam 199

free spaces for equip : 6 (filled - main/boots/rune)

___________

Pieces filling other slots in this example:

demon horned helm (38) att 46 arm 25 hp 5
power obelisk (42) att 50 dam 34 (for rooted set - could swap with flamed rune)
amulet of pain (31) att 22 dam 40
sunstone ring (44) att 45 def 5 arm 5 hp -12 dam 45 stam 5
knights kite shield(36) att 15 def 35 arm 20 hp 2
bitter gloves (v.good)- (43) att 40 def - 8 arm 31 hp 21 dam 10
sweeping deadly flail(36) att 20 dam 55

just my 2 cents.

Sets I really didn't like (other than those already mentioned):

Carnage (I hear it's good for PvP but I don't bother, it has horribly low attack so it sucked for levelling)

Cerberus (exact same problem. Attack is poor (at vpoor/average crafting, couldn't afford to master craft the whole set I looted at the time.))

khale is good in a way that there's only two items...meaning you have more freedom to mix and match....still wearing it now together with the Henz set...:)

Carnage is great for PvP.

Jahd set is good, if you don't have Mancrusha.

Rarek set looks VERY nice, and I can keep my mancrusha amulet.

I'll say Aleos set at lv 105 is a good set.
If you can't afford the deep set I'd say this set will let you use from 105-125 at least, and still good for combining with deep set but not a must now.

Giggles isn't that good

In my opinion, Giggles is an extremely good set for two reasons:
- it only has two items (for the elite hunter)
- it's cheap - got it for 10k gold which is ok at level 19.

Hunting wise, HP, Armor and defence are of little importance in general. A 2 piece set allows for flexibility and customising your gear. Here is a post I made on my guild's forum

" I am a number cruncher myself. I noticed the large sets (4+ items) sell for a lot of FSP and I was wondering if they are really worth it, from the hunting point of view.

At level 19, I bought the Giggles set - armor and hat - for about 10k gold. Then I was wondering how long I was supposed to keep it (for the elite hunter bonus mostly) - to my surprise - I realised that the combined power of the giggles set and commons/rares/uniques would take me a looong way.

Lets compare the giggles combo with other sets (crafting and skill bonuses excluded):

Nightshade (28 ) Giggles/commons(28 )

HP 72 44
Dam 55 60
Def 180 132
Att 75 86
Armor 140 125

Nightshade (at 33) Giggles/commons(at 33)

HP 72 27
Dam 55 79
Def 180 221
Att 75 91
Armor 140 120

Gnarled (at 35) Giggles/others(at 35)

HP 80 74
Dam 45 102
Def 245 203
Att 105 105
Armor 165 109

Gnarled (at 40) Giggles/others(at 40)

HP 80 43
Dam 45 172
Def 245 171
Att 105 110
Armor 165 150

I've done other comparisons involving small sets (3- pieces) vs large ones - generally small sets + others are at least comparable to large sets at base level of the large one, while at base level +5-10, small sets +others are generally better, mostly because they are more flexible and customisable (who wants the 300 HP bonus of the leaf dragon bonus anyway).

Mind also that large sets require a lot of FSP and trading time, and they only get their real bonus when full - usually not at their base level if you are not filthy rich.

Waiting for comments.

I have a question ... I just got most of the Cerberus set, so should i sell it and get a different set? If so what set should i get?

Cerberus sucks...If I were you I won't even mess with that set.
maybe the lv 45 Kragh,lv53 hellfire(not too good but for the 100%elite hunter),lv 55 Yeltz,lv 59 uber Khale.
just my 2 cents.

What nagato said... You should get kragh now, its uber hard to level from 53-54 or so with the aquatic horrors taking like 2-3 stam per kill(would 1-hit 15 then have 2 unresolved)

This deserving of a sticky with more feedback?
