There are two sides to virtually every story...

On one hand, as a coder, I understand it takes a good deal of time to go through pages of code and update it in a way that doesn't break anything else.  This, of course, requires a LOT of testing and can often take MUCH more time than anticipated.  Plus, while you are neck deep in code, you don't want any distractions if possible and having to sit down and type up status reports takes a lot of time away from actual work.

On the other hand, the lack of reports to the general public appears as a lack of activity and is typically considered bad business practices.  For the most part, people understand that life happens and project deadlines tend to change, but when this happens and no one gives any kinds of status updates, the common assumption is the proverbial "ball has been dropped".

I have suggested in the past that maybe HCS needs more coders to help keep up with the ever-growing list of planned updates/fixes but perhaps they just need someone who can quickly get the scoop on what's going on and then inform the community so Hoof (or any other dev) doesn't have to take time away from working on the issue just to update the community... This can even be a voluntary position much like chat mods.
