#898209 What's really important in Fallen Sword

Posted by BadPenny on 05 November 2014 - 16:50

I didn't start this thread to cause an uproar or a big debate.  I just wanted to point out that keeping players interested, both new and old, is the responsibility of all, not just the Devs, or the chat mods (how that got here, I can't know) or any one group of players, but all of us.  And I don't mean just in GC, that is still just one avenue for us.

Although mentoring has never been fully implemented, I do know that those of us that opted to be mentors show up on a list.  I get new players asking me for mentoring all the time.  I do my best to help them as much as I can, by sharing links and general knowledge, telling them what guilds might be accepting new players, reminding them to equip and repair gear, even telling them where to put those LUP.

Mentoring also gives us a new players list to check.  I check it occasionally, probably less than I should, and I will reach out to new players that appear to be sticking around... I hope others do so as well.

I don't do this for any reward, I actually feel that a reward is unnecessary.  I do it because I love this game, and without other players, I have no game to play.

Yes. But is it fair that it spawns almost exclusively during eu biz and early evening hours? Between 12:00-15:00 server time, there have been 14 seasonals roaming erildath. 0:00-3:00 = 0, 3:00-6:00 = 1 and 6:00-8:59 =0

Just asking for a little fairness. You may say there are less players during said time period but the one and only Titan that spawned was killed in 1:42 with a ton of people chasing it. Sure, keep the spawn rate low but have it spawn at other times too. Is that an unreasonable request?

I'm here all hours of the day and night.  I can tell you, there is no one time of day when there are more players than another.  It is usually 450-500 online at any given time.  And it's not just the Americas that are being cheated out of Titan time.  It's those further East than Europe, too.  I hear them talk about this in Global Chat, and they are posting here.  Please, Big Guy, fix this disparity... I'm always here, I'll get my chance at them, but there are many that are at work or school from the time a Titan spawns till he is killed off.  With none spawning during the times they can play, this is grossly unjust and must be corrected immediately.

Just my 2 Pennys

Yea... top titan hunting guilds only who can secure some of these seasonal drops and make some good profit.. keep them rare so they can get some nice profits

Sorry, I care nothing about your PROFITS.... what I do care about is balance.  Epics are no longer EPIC if any Tom, Dick or Harry can just walk on in and farm it (those are called Elites and Champions).... Therefore, they should spawn only a few times.  BUT they still need to spawn more in our prime time, so that our part of the world has an equal chance.  It's totally unfair that only Europe and the UK get to hunt these Titans... FS is an International game, after all.

What the Holy Bovines need to do to improve player retention is not my focus here, although I admit that of late, there have been things neglected.  Yes, we need Hoofie to peep in and pay a little more attention to us... PvP needs its revamp, but, I really don't expect anything there until next year.  There are the FS birthday and Christmas events to plan and implement after all (not to mention new content), so I'm sure that discussions about PvP are back burner for the moment...

What I am trying to illustrate is that we as a community owe it to ourselves to be kind and helpful to each other, new and veterans.  Part of what kept me coming back when I was struggling was the help I received from what then amounted to new friends I met in this forum and on the IRC.  I just think we've lost sight of this, and as a result, new players are getting lost, confused and frustrated, and just move on to another game.  Those are who I think we should focus on.  We don't need mentoring implemented to start doing it again.  We should do it out of love of the game and the desire to help keep it alive by helping new blood grow and get bit by the FS bug...

There are many topics about what keeps us playing this game, and what HCS should do to keep the new players that trickle in interested long enough to stick around and become part of the community.  But, how often do we consider how much of this is our responsibility as well?  Tonight, while hanging out on global chat as I usually do, a brand new player came in and said "Hello".  He was warmly welcomed to a guild by a veteran player, generously buffed by another, and had lively conversation with us all.  I predict this player will join the ranks of the addicted as we teach him how to play the whole game.  This is what we did in the old days.  I remember in my first guild, helping my guild founder scope out the online players list for brand new players.  Those that went before passed down their knowledge.  Players like AzUK and Mowglik and Crace made maps and guides to help us all through.  The original USFG was Crace's creation.  It was an invaluable tool then, as it is now.  Anyway, back on point, we didn't have chat like we do now.  You had to have an IRC client to communicate in real time, or as WK does, have a Skype chat room set up for the guild.  We should be using global chat to welcome new players that pop in and encourage them, as we did this new player tonight.  It doesn't hurt us to give free advice to the new guys, and it can't be anything but good for the game.

It's a baked potato, a whole one, stuck on a fork and dripping in butter.  I have requested a plate... a civilized lady needs a plate for her potato ;)

And no one wants your sausage, Shindrak :P

#897581 Halloween Event Not Plausible

Hey there.

Sorry, but as several people in the thread have pointed out, the target was reachable. This year, some people either didn't put in the effort of the previous two years or waited a bit too long to join in, in hopes of reaching the Top 100.

Maybe I should have lowered the individual targets. I'll know better for next year.

Umm, don't you mean RAISED, big guy?

Wait... lowering the personal target makes no sense to me... shouldn't it increase to ensure success?

Look on the bright side Penny... the lower tier chests would be great for PvP

That's all fine and good, but I kinda had my heart set on that super level up potion in the ruby chest... There is where I need assistance, not in PvP... I know how to make myself most awesome with what we have available on a regular basis, but I always seem to start 2 levels down...

I did my part and then some... I'm NOT the only one.  But, we only have so much stam to burn.  I know I'll never make top 100, I just don't have the resources to attain enough stam, and if even I did, there is the time factor.

The totals may have been more realistic had there not been so many other activities to do at the same time  I'm sure the fact that many are holding out for Titans that appear to be mostly MIA, and others are busy finishing the spooky quests so that they can be eligible for said Titans has a lot to do with the low kill totals.

Then there are the LE's to contend with, always fun, but very much distracting from the global beasties as well.

Finally, there are our precious ZB's... They are our Pokemon, we gotta have 'em..

So, which critters give the big "points"?  You guessed it, the one with the least use to us...

There you have it... with a lower player base than ever before, and so many things to do at one time, it's no wonder we can't get the ball rolling.  Yeah, the goal here is unrealistic. Sorry, Big Guy, your math is very very flawed this year.

#896701 Suggestion to the everyday lag

Posted by BadPenny on 29 October 2014 - 16:46

Then your daily  plan is flawed... wait till AFTER that lag time (we all know it's coming, it means FS is working right, after all) THEN buy your buffs and start hunting.... Surely you don't think that Cow time revolves around you, right?

The "Daily Lag" has been around for several years.  We all know to expect it, and use that time for other things, like Real Life, for example.  It's a great time to get those dishes done ;)
