Gold enters through quests and selling items. Gold exits through buying items, fast travel and quests (rare).

We may have something else to spend gold on, but I can't reveal that as I'm not entirely sure how it will work yet.

If selling loot and buying items from vendors is a major gold entry and exit then you guys may regulate gold by increasing or decreasing vendor prices.

If vendor prices are decreased by you guys then people will get only a small amount of gold for their loot and people are encouraged to buy from vendors instead of farming creatures for their items/loot. This will lead to less gold entering the game and more leaving, so gold becomes more valuable.
If vendor prices are increased by you guys then people will get a high amount of gold for their loot and people are discouraged to buy from vendors compared to farming creatures for their items/loot. This will lead to more gold entering the game and less leaving, so gold becomes less valuable.

But only time will tell how truly effective this will be. ;)

That'll be a major point we'll focus on during beta. We have scalars in place through our system so it'll be easy to adjust.

Just going to put this out there, there will be people who hoard the gold just so they can say they have the most. And they will never spend it because they will farm their items from monsters. What will they do with all their gold? Probably give it to random people, or just keep hoarding it. Would there be any way to prevent hoarding to this level?

I think that's where we need to first ensure there is balance between amount of gold earned vs effort (which alot of work has already gone into) and second to have compelling gold sinks throughout the game.

Capping the amount of gold people could have per character or per account might be a bit too restrictive, but worth thinking about. Some games cap their secondary currencies to encourage an earn then spend cycle too.

What's wrong with hoarding gold...?

Generally, nothing. Being a bit more frugal in games can in-fact be pretty handy (thinking Skyrim for saving up for houses etc).

However in almost any game if you get many players holding onto huge amounts of gold it suggests there isn't enough to spend it on, or that the economy is a bit broken. There is also a slim chance that players with large amounts of gold can screw up the trading economy (buying all the stuff on auction and putting it up at horrifically high prices etc), but that's troll behaviour in general and we are on the internet ;)

On the flipside of this in Eve Online hoarding money is almost part of the game, and their economy works pretty well.

In every mmo i ever played gold was never an issue, i allways had more then i can spend since i kinda dont like spending it :]]

If i can craft or get items myself i usually dont buy them, imo gold should be saved for something that is really really hard to get and someone just had more luck then you...

Endure. In enduring, grow strong.
