Anyone who needs to know. . .
If you run Linux, and need to edit the host file, open a terminal, type in:

sudo gedit /etc/hosts

And it will open as an editable document.

If you use a different text editor than gedit, replace the name of the program with yours.


If your distro is debian/ubuntu based at least

Remember, to edit as administrator (in Windows) it is not enough to be a user with admin rights, you have to open the editor explicitly as administrator. use right-click to select "open as administrator".

yea..it barely works...how can hcs..have a game out for years , yet cant have a guide to the game that works..i have seen well over 100 new players join since the merge of accounts..and i think only 2 are still playing..me being one of them for some crazy reason...i am now stuck in the game as i have no idea where to go next or what to do next SINCE I DONT HAVE ANY SORT OF GUIDE TO HELP..game is huge..i am tired of running around aimlessly trying to find something to do..i see no, and i mean ZERO COW PERSONNAL INVOVING THEMSELVES WITH THIS GAME OR ITS PROBELMS..disgusting...wake up cow land and fix this issue once and for all...

It seems anything on Gothaguide after the letter 'M' gets a 404 error for me. Also not archived in the Way Back Machine.

Maybe this can be put up on some kind of wiki or the forumer thing that was mentioned so that it is free and the links stay active and people can have it as a resource. And since HCS won't make a site with all the game info that people need they could link to it somewhere in your character profile or whatever so that if  you can't find quest info or whatnot you can click the link and it sends you to the appropriate site  so you can look it up. 

 

The lack of available current (and even past) information is crippling the game. People are joining, seeing nothing, finding nothing and then throwing their hands up and walking away.  We need something we can reference!

 But it STILL doesn't work. Saw the comment re OPERA, so tried it on Chrome, IE & LunaScape (after a reboot B4 any of them), No go.  :-(  

 Ive found another copy of Hosts in an AMD file - but even starting Notebook up in Administrator mode I cant change it. This might be whats screwing me.

PS. Even tried putting a copy in the directory of the browsers themselves in hope they'd get a file from there 1st - NoGo
