I don't know the number of self-described "PvPers" that have left the game, but I'll bet ya dollars to donuts there have been FAR more "non-PvPers" that have left because of PvP. Daily. Particularly in the low levels.

Tremors: I recall thinking PvP should be on-spot-only. Still think it would be better... but it's sort of impossible with relics and portals. Too abuse-able.

As for guild structures, I think some ARE set on number of players (may be wrong). I know the cost to upkeep changes as you upgrade, though, so the answer is to refrain from upgrading until you've grown as a guild to afford the upgrade.

The pvp structure of just being able to type a name and you can attack is imo ridiculous. There should be perhaps no restriction but a player has to at least hunt down players IN game not just a simple no brainer typo.

You do realize how many maps and realms are in this game right? The idea of searching every map to find a pvp target, then hoping that someone you find happens to have gold, and NO pvp protection, would cause a major decline in pvp activity.

Bounties should also be removed if players are to actually hunt down their targets, which SHOULD be the case.

Kill off the bounty board and retribution/revenge aspect of pvp? O_o

As is we see massive guild buffs so even a noob player using his guild can win at pvp even if he spends not a single dime on this game. This encourages ONLY large/established guilds. The purpose of any developer is to encourage NEW otherwise that game will suffer a slow death and never move upwards.
As of right now BOTH SS2 [near empty] and FS have very low pops, this is solely because of the game pvp structure,i guarantee it.
.

There's nothing wrong with teamwork. I know many smaller guilds that work together to build their guild inventory, to train and help other players grow, who then in turn pass on knowledge. Buff's are only part of pvp, it;s knowledge of set ups, gear, and how to beat other sets. Curious how you know pvp is the reason for low population on a game you seem new to. Could you cite your sources?

Gone are the days when there was no limit to levels lost on the bounty board, when guilds would delevel ANYONE who touched a member, when wars were waged constantly, and the community thrived. Conflict made the game exciting.

We're going to be taking a look next week to see how we can improve the experience for new players, including adding more to the tutorial. :)

Give them a temporary stamina gain boost. (perhaps as a reward for a quest)

Give them MORE backpack slots. Seriously, 3 wasn't enough and the one extra isn't much better. Just boost it to ten?

GvG immunity, till at least level 50?

At level 30-50'ish create a pvp tutorial. Least then they'll KNOW what to expect.

Create some new quests at level 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50. Each giving 100 max stamina reward for completing them... That way when players hit 50 (and have done the quests) have a nice stamina figure of 1000 for when they become 'fully fledged' FS members...

Emphasize that new players SHOULD join a guild. ANY guild.

Without a guild I would have quit.

Try to steer them to guilds IMMEDIATELY.

one of the most important thing that HCS needs to include in this game is a global chat room. In fact, several chat rooms, that you can just put up on the bottom, side, wherever, on the screen. You should have access to Guild Chat in Real Time, Global Chat (yes, it makes the FS Box and Shoutbox redundant, but no one really cares for them in any case, messages stay there for ever and they can only be used to advertise with the chat rooms), Trade Chat (where people can advertise WTS/WTB messages), Noobie Chat (where new players can ask for support from seasoned pros)

It's a social game, the MMO in this game means there should be chat rooms. Noobie chat would be such an important addition. Tutorials are great, but there's nothing like poppin in the chat room and saying "How do I get out of the level 1 area?" and someone, whoever, is in the noobie chat room can take the time to answer their question. There can also be recruitment chat room --- where people looking for Guild can join and see the recruitment messages from players. I know it takes the aspect of using FSP to post messages on the main page of FS, but that can always stay there --- the chat rooms will make the game much more interactive for players. New players can immediately get help. Welcoming committee such as the one formed in this forum can be active in those chat rooms, dedicated to helping new players and the numerous questions they may have. Everybody emphasizes on "Join a guild" but a chatroom would solve that issue so quickly. You can obviously join the chat rooms and if you don't wanna be inundated with the new players questions, just don't join the noobie chat room, or the Looking for Guild Chat room or the Trade chat room -- You can stay in General chat and Guild chat and even opt out of those as well. This would be a really great update and will increase the time a new player would stay in this game.

I'd agree to something like this, but only if there were mods present. We all see how crazy some threads on the forums can get, we dont need a fs wide chat room getting out of hand either.

Absolutely - they did something similar to this in SS2 and , because it wasn't moderated real time, it very rapidly descended into adverts for other games, name-calling, obscenities and ... ok, pretty much like the forums are now ...

You can always have community appointed mods. You know, players, who are appointed as mods --- HCS can make that decision. The chat room can have filters enabled as well, URL filters, I know this is very easy to do with programming. Filters would be for swear-words and URLs.

Of course, you don't have to be in the chat room, you can chose to join or not join any given chat room. Left click on the name of the person can allow you to ignore chat messages from them. Report anybody for spamming. There should also be flood filters. You can have automated IRC bots type of mods present that may kick someone out of chat room for flooding. Several mmorpg games don't allow people to post more then certain amount of messages in global chat rooms per minute and let the user know if they exceed that limit that you must wait before you can post anymore.. ... kinda like the forums.

These restrictions should mainly be placed for Global Chat room / Trade Chat / Looking for Guild Chat rooms / Noobie chats.

Community projects such as the welcoming committee has many experienced players who want to help new players.. they can be appointed as moderators in Noobie chat with the ability to kick any level 1 character created just to spam/advertise.

It's all possible and can start with just giving us the ability to have Guild Chat Room first -- and move on from there. For new players, it will be a perfect addition. People get confused, don't know what to do anymore and leave, that's the way it is. With Chat rooms at least they can see there's life in the game, there's help!

we are already mods ;)

the idea of selecting a few players to 'moderate' a chat is ridiculous..what other mmo's have you played where the developers/support crew put that power into the hands of players?

just add a report button and harass support..

and that's the way it should be :-) Iggy + Report are powerful combinations :-) With spam filters+swear filter+flood filter -- chat will be as safe as the players want it to be!

Only difference is, other games have GMs --- that may require some resources from HCS
