GIMP is FREE Ps isn't... but you can get Ps cheaper with an educational discount if you go to a college...

Some say GIMP is better... others say Ps is better... I prefer Ps... but I learned photo manip in 9th grade using Ps...

Just pick one of the programs and start looking up tuts to learn how to use it... then ask when you need help :D

Sorry for broken english.

Is it better to had text before or after reducing the pic on PS?
Mines always seem distort when working 200X200
Also do U know a good thread to really learn how to use Brushes, not only simple work, I mean art work as many of U are doing.
Is it just experience?

its the best to work at 200x200 from beginning...

if you want to continue resizing, then add text after youve resized it...

GIMP, PhotoShop, blah blah. Anyone ever heard of PAINT.NET? (No not MS paint, and yes, it's free)

To answer your first question, create a new layer first then add your new image to that

To scale in gimp using different ratios instead of auto scale simply set the first size then click on the little hinge icon to the right then set your second size.

Resizing like this though does lose the proportions of a piece and is best avoided
The best way to get an image to a square size is to simply crop it to square, then if you have to, you can resize afterwards.

Hope that helps

if you download GIMP, which has no viruses, you can get started without any websites.
