Some people don't hide during DCs. It's common practise for certain top-ten chars to stand deliberately at Centra, challenging the other players, and sometimes even posting/IRCing "For the next 10 minutes I'll be at Centra with 10 Mil, come and kill me if you can".
Now, on the opposite, who is the one is these ten who you'd say never quits CS during a DC?

Actually there are more than one that I haven't seen at Centra during DCs and i pop in and out of there a lot. The choice was quiet hard to make actually.

I've not been playing more than a month or so but does it really matter if the top ten players choose not to use their APs letting lower levels make attempts on them during dark clouds? Is there some unspoken law I am not aware of that dictates a top ten player must take their gold and present themselves to the masses for killing? Is BurtonX or anyone else that "wins" this poll any less of a top player because of it?

People coming at Centra during DC can't see you; they're dead before.

There is no quest, or realm, or item, or creature that requires you to be 6000+, you can't enter top 10 as a side effect or without noticing. So yes, it makes you less of a top player.

yes, it makes you less of a top player.
And who are you to dictate from the unwashed masses what makes the measure of the top ten players because they choose not to participate in an event? There are many PvP realms in this game and undoubtedly those top ten players do not baulk at the idea of stepping foot in them so why should it detract from their character should they choose not to go to a certain warp gate for a Dark Cloud? As of yet I myself have only experienced one such event and I must confess it does not seem to be the be all and end all worthy of tarnishing the measure of a player regardless of their ranking.

I don't care about DC's. It's a waste of my ap... so sue me. I may come out and play for 5min at most.. but I won't sit around hawking a warp gate. Its not my kind of fun.

LOL, it's all in fun I think. Truth is, I think there are really only 2 on here that I see quite a bit during DC's. That is zwysk and AssStallion. They are built for PvP, and DC's are the perfect event to show off in.

Making the top ten is a testament of how hard you work at this game. The amount of time you invest in mind-numbing hunting. Not whether or not you park yourself at a warpgate and send out a mass message stating "Hey, I've got a ton of GP on me, come kill me" :roll:
Another good point GMC, every single one of the players in the top ten is built differently. Personally, I've got a lot invested into my ATK and DMG, mainly because I like leveling effeciently and would like to continue to be able to do so.
It's a trade off really. If you put a ton of points into your AC and HP, you're going to find it a lot slower and more AP consuming to put up a decent amount of levels per USP, yet in PVP you're going to stand up to quite a bit. So really, to each their own.

Who honestly cares if the top ten partake in DC's? Personally, I think Dc's can be fun, but I'd rather spend my AP on something a bit more productive - In my case, hunting or helping others out. We all have our strong points in this game - just because you don't see someone in DC's doesn't make them a pansy, it means they have other prioities, and if standing at Centra like a pawn holding millions of gp is what makes people strong playes in this game - I'm throwing in my white flag now.

they must of mis-read the poll, 1st hour of DC's that i've seen its andor, AssStallion and MysticalMe. i'm sure alot of the others turn up as well but i give up after a short while, for obvious resons.
