Never is a long time and there actually has been a "free" reset but it was before your (OP) time. It was when they initially changed from a level up points reset to a total player reset. Used to be that you could reset your LU points independently of the skill points but that was abused so the cows changed it to include a total character reset. Since the skill points can also be reset on their own there's really no compelling reason to give free player resets. On a related note though, I have never understood the increasing cost of player resets but so far multiple requests and polls to change that have gone unanswered by the cows.

I actually agree that the reset price should remain constant.
By having it on an ever incrementing fee, you discourage folk (to an extent) from trying out other aspects of the game where level up points are better utilised in areas other than damage, damage and more damage.
Do I think there should be a free reset tho ? - maybe players could be given ONE free one if they joined within the last 6-12 months, but other than that, no.

Yeah, that could work - you get just the one freebie, on your 1 yr anniversary ? - other than that, you pay a flat fee to reset 'em each time ..
