I wanted to talk about the possibility or planning for the housing system in Eldevin.

A few basic hopeful features would be:

Storage

Crafting Tables

Oven/Fireplace

Farm Plots

[Please add thoughts on]

It would give a lot of meaning to have to go mine the stone for foundation, cut trees for the home and use forestry to make furniture for the home. Just a few things to make it feel like a home, it would give plenty of skills more uses.

I couldn't agree more with the housing suggestions; it gives the game more of a fun factor for the player. Housing makes storage more functional and would allow the player such features as:

1) Storing items & gathered resources

2) Utilizing crafting stations/add-ons

3) Utilizing their crafting skills with maker's mark, to decorate their houses (e.g. taxidermy skill to make trophies, carpentry skill to make furniture, pottery skill to make crockery, etc.)

4) Allow players and/or guilds to meet-up for events, etc.

5) Allow Eldevin to come-up with rare decorative housing add-ons that can only be purchased

i rather like this suggestion of housing there could be some more add-ons

1, if the home stead is not visited at least ones in 7 days ( a week ) it starts to degrade by a small % each day / week not visited

2, have the ability to increase the size by upgrade starting at a hovel upgrading to full castle

3, having the ability to employ NPC’s as guards, gardeners ( not farming ) and entertainers

4, having the ability to allocate separate rooms for each profession with a clear sign supplied by a fixed list ( one room for each profession )

5, employing NPC for maintenance to prevent home degradation

6, when NPC are employed they will be paid on a daily rate varying to their position if not paid they disappear looking for new employment

Do we really need this to be a copy of Runescape?

I'd like to be able to store materials in a house chest and then be able to auto use those materials to craft anything from my house. That'd be nice.

I really like the idea of having a place other than the stash to store my crafting materials/components. I would like to have it be upgradeable like:

  • increase the amount of farming plots
  • Addition of empty rooms which you can slowly add decor to
  • Addition of portals to Eldevin City and other major landmarks

Decor and furnishables would be craftable or bought from the Potter, Forestry trader or from a new npc, The Interior Designer.

Another addition to this system could be a guild hall. There can be a general guild hall in Eldevin City for easy access to the one's guild. Guild halls would work in a similar fashion with it being a guild 'Stronghold', a place which is crafted by the guild admins and maintained by the entire guild.

A player's house could a

Player housingg would also open a lot of new possibilities for crafting on every profession, like furniture, decor plants, mounted fishes for wall trophies, weapon displays, decorative food, etc.

I really like the idea of player housing and guild halls. But with that we have to think of how difficult it would be implement such a thing. Most of the features that people want or that would make implementing housing worth could be done, but there would still be a large strain on the developers. To add houses and guild halls they would have to create custom world cells for those house. Considering the number of active players and that this is a free to play game, i find it hard to believe that there would be a financially viable way to implement this.

If the developers were to add housing i think1 that it would have very few features.

  • personal XP resting location
  • additional player storage
  • personal crafting stations

I personally1 think that guild halls are more likely to be added over personal housing, because it's one cell for many people. I believe the same features but the personal storage would be replaced with the guild vault.

I saw a lot of interesting ideas here that it think could be added but are doubtful to be implemented do to the strain on storing such a variety of custom cells. The great example of this are decorations, although it would be neat to have decorations that someone made in their home it would require a changing cell decide. Which again would case a need for greater data storage.

Overall i think it could be possible for the implementation of Player houses or guild halls but to do so the developers would likely have to: Player house

  • Charge real money/EP to purchase the houses
  • Require the player to visit the home every so often otherwise the home is removed

for a Guild hall

  • Certain guild level
  • Minimal member limit

I like a lot of the ideas posted here, some are possible others probably1 not but i hope to see more developments in the future.

1 all this is my personal opinion I have no way of knowing the capabilities of the team at Hunted Cow

Yea I gave a good description of how they could use materials in the game already plus add in some new skills with building houses/guild houses. Check out my "Going to build a house with...." Page 4 of General Discussions for the original one and also look for "Return of the House!!!" for a shorten version of it on Page 2.  :D
