So, I've done the tutorial quests and have gone back to the Gothodar map, now what? Is there a sequence of quests? this world is huge? how do i get around it without spending several days going from one side to the next? What's the best stat distribution as I've been putting mine into AP?

Well, considering that you are asking here, you don't likely have anyone helping you in the game, and so you should do these quests:
Barbaric Rage, helps gain xp faster.
Myth of Ares, because you'll want it for later, if you decide to pay to play.
Legend of Xenthij, again, if you want to pay later.
You'll also want to get the sense skill for 500 gp at 50,50 in Gothador to see what you will be attacking, the creature locate at 4, 15 Gothador for 7500 gp to search for monsters, detect at 25, 55 Gothador for 5000 gp to find the nearest stairs, hospital, or similar structure.
Also, put a few of you first level up points into speed, to help you get more AP faster. Alternatively, you can beg in the shoutbox for a time shift, and someone will likely cast this upon you, greatly increasing your ap regeneration.

thanks. lots of gold to come up with. suggestions on getting some gold quickly without using massive amounts of ap?

In the beginning you just get gold from killing monsters really. Possibly from some quests. That said, I left you some, so you should try to find a bank (using the detect skill already mentioned).
Also, there are two good resources for finding quests and locations:

I know the second one has trouble with its DNS or something like that, but there's a thread somewhere on this forum detailing how to get to it.
Would have given you some equipment as well, but I have no idea what's good any more
