I've been killing Lazy Rats with my pick axe, but my total critter kills is still at zero.

 

Something is wrong with the tallying mechanism here.

 

I don't see how I can be the one goofing here.  I have it equipped AND I am selecting it to kill with rather than my usual methods.

 

Please check this.

Large axe kills under Profiencies is at 32.  I think my pick axe must be in that category -- it's about the only axe I've used.

 

Is the game programmed such that only one of these two achievements can be earned from a given action?  Am I not supposed to double them up like I am doing?

I don't think critters include rats. Have you tried to kill squirrels and such? the mobs with 1hp.

indeed, lazy rats are not critters, it has to be squirrels and bunnies, what Truth said

squirrels, bunnies, frogs, rats (the small ones), bats, and crabs. All those that are level 1 and have 1 HP, those are critters. (Not totally sure about chickens, someone should check that.)

I can confirm that chickens are also critters, just killed one with my mining pick - and the number tallies, so the achievement (which I already had) works
