Does this game advance beyond the use of copper?

Discover tin, mix with copper to make bronze and then iron?

Yes, while it does not advance by mixing ores

You level up your prospecting skill to mine higher level ores.

At level 16+ you can mine bronze

At level 32+ you can mine iron

At level 48+ you can mine silver

Same with Weapon/Armorsmithing. At those respective levels, you use that ore to advance your craft
