I think it would be a good idea if we could set bags so items of a certain type automatically default to that bag unless it's full.

For example, I have 4 bags. So all equipment that I acquire would go to bag 1, all gathering items I get (ore, fruit, farming, etc) go to bag 2, all potions and foods go to bag 3, etc. That way it keeps everything a lot cleaner since we know which bag contains what items.

I know you are suggesting something different, but there is a sort button which would have a similar end result if used when your bags are full.

Haha I know, but even that bag sorting only sorts one bag at a time. So if you have some hides in one bag that's full and they over lap into your next bag as you get more hides, sorting won't put them in the same bag.

Reminds me of some WoW addons.  I remember one that would combine all your bag/inventory space into a single grid visually (I really didn't like that when I tried that, myself, but it was very different).   And there would be others that, yes, would functionally sort items by bag under your configuration control, as in the OP.   Of course WoW also had special bags for professions (and Warlock soul shards, long ago) that could only carry those mats/tools, with more slots available for less cost.

One thing I never saw was a top/bottom sorting system, which would effectively double the available sorting categories - i.e. one set of items sort into the bag from the top down, and another set from the bottom up, with both growing towards the unused space in the middle (like a heap/stack memory model).  Would have liked that...

In Eldevin, I use various bags for various purposes.   I many cases I just accept whatever the autosort does, and live with it.

Even if we were able to name the different bags that would be helpful.
