How about this some equipment can come with slots in them which are filled by power shards. The shards could be dropped by creatures and then placed in to the the chosen piece of equipment by a craft shop which will cost you gold.
But to get the shards to work you have to forge at least two of them together. The more forged (maybe up to 6) the more powerful its given power. The power could be decided at the craft shop randomly or depends on the colour of the shards forged together. EG: 3 reds and 3 blue will make a stamina boost power shard.
Powers could be
+ any of your normal stats
Bring down the cost of your buffs
+ gold / stam/ exp gain
- stamina during hunting ( movement and creature attacks cost less to do)
+ bp slots

But it can be used to create more personalized gear. Which could also make gear dropped by normal creatures more meaningful and will also bring more unique gear to the auction house.
