So I remember there used to be SOTW (Sig of the Week) events. They were pretty cool and brought the graphics community together with voting and prizes. If we could do something like that again, I think it would be really cool. Signatures don't really seem that popular right now on the forums, but maybe we could bring them back haha. Avatar of the Week seems like a better competition and we could run it every other week or something if it's too much to handle every week.

 

To get something like this running we would need people to run it, participate in it, and donate to the cause. I would be happy to help. For each competition we would specify a theme (and maybe if we're allowing  animated or not for that contest) and gather the submissions. Then we open a thread and post the submissions anonymously and have people vote on them. Perhaps we could split the prizes and have 1st, 2nd, 3rd. This will probably depend on the size of the prize pot for that week.

A HUGE yes from me. I'm willing to help and donate, but I won't participate though. I can donate up to 10 fsp per week, plus entry fees, if needed.

 

I'm thinking of a joining cost of 1 fsp to contribute to the prize. It's not that expensive for joining, but I'm also willing to pay for someone who would like to enter. Any thoughts?

 

I can also help advertise in the FSbox for voting and finding more participants

EDIT: I'll advertise it in the FS Box along with my auction haha. I'll do it a different day since I bought a Shoutbox message today before I thought of this. I was visiting the Accomplishments section of the Fallen Sword section when I saw some old SOTW things.

We had this going awhile ago (SOTW) for a couple months, Roan was the host if i remember correctly. It was going smoothly until we hit a dead month where only 1-2 people would join per week. If you can find a way to not make that deadness comeback, i'm game.

Get theme on monday. Have your piece in Sunday. Voting starts next Monday.

The big thing though, we need an active host.

I'm also selfish, i won't donate to the competition but i'll pay entry fee's to anyone who wants in who can't afford it.

1 FSP a week? That's like a few video rewards for me haha. Easy money. Plus, people hunt and get tons of gold, I haven't even really been hunting so no income . Still, some people need that precious FSP though so I understand. I might be able to help pay entry fee for some as well. I'll make a section where we set some things in stone.

I'd like to see this happen again, while I wouldn't take part as I SUCK at graphics, really I do. Still learning. I would be happy to help run it. I'm active every day, even if I'm not posting anything. I read everything. Getting the graphics section back up and alive would be AWESOME.

Alright cool. We have a pretty good group so far. I'm sure we'll get some more support as more people see this. It's just the first day. We could have rotation set up for who hosts the contest each week. The person who's hosting will receive the submissions and be the one who posts the thread. They won't be able to vote since they know who's who.

Correct! While voting goes on during the week, the graphic makers are on to creating their next piece. It's an overlapping process. Roan was a great host so he could handle it all pretty well. If this is to much for our current host, a competition every other week might make it easier on the host.

I've seen SOTW's on other forums too so I guess I have an idea of how it works.

I can also help host if Atorra needs any help. I'm on every day with plenty of time to spare and I check the forums as a daily routine.

It would be pretty cool if we could have a SOTW banner for every Graphic of the week

Grand Graphics Tournament

 

Its a once (maybe twice) a year thing. Their are usually a good amount of people who join, i'd say 10-20 people. The pot racks up to over 200fsp (last year i think we got 500fsp, i think). 

 

What we do is host a big ass auction with pieces donated for the GGT. Whatever that piece goes for, the fsp goes into the GGT pot. The auction + donators + entry fee for the tournament = big ass fsp pot.  Then the tournament starts. You'll sign up somewhere on one of these topics when it comes out and compete with other people. It's usually the winner or two winners of each group (groups of 3-4 people) continue on to the next round and continue competing. Usually each week is a new round with a new theme. It's pretty badass because its big graphics so creativity is to the max.  Top 3 artist are the winners.

Should make it a requirement for the artist to send in the original render/stock as well. That way it can be posted alongside the avatar/sig for reference.

Sure, we could post the original along with their art so the voters can also see. Anyone else think this should be a feature?
