Copied from the Book of Ages -

Once upon an age ago it seems thus now, Elves and Drow fought in a series of skirmishes, which finally saw the Elves retreat to lick their wounds whilst the Drow's battlelust turned inward.

Two Households became the most prominate of this in-race hostility. The Princess Loc'ress, of the Iron hand (Volk Rhi) house, favoured of the Goddess Etharas. And Prince Aero, the outcast leader of the Illythiri.

At this time two mercenaries Sargtilin and Simeon. Both were hired by demons to assassinate a group of Angelic beings, only to find out that they were to be double-crossed, and thus they turned against their employers. Following this, the pair seperated, one to disappear from the lands whilst the other came to the attention of Prince Aero for he was his lost cousin.

Their joined might led the Princess Loc'ress to act, using the Ice Queen Shiva's ball to set forth her plans to assasinate him in motion. Yet an unforeseen spanner in the form of Nanaean Knight and Magi Kayla, heir to a small drow House, was thrown into the works. The magess had long seen Aero as her own enemy, but not knowing who he was, she saved saved his life.

The cousins then departed swiftly home only to find it in near ruin, attacked by the drow mystic blood sect of the Qualyn, with Sargtlin's love mortally wounded. But even here Loc'ress's plan had ultimately failed, and saw her fall from Etharas' favour. In the meantime, though chastised for saving Aero's life, Kayla unwittingly found herself new favourite of the drow Goddess.

Prince Aero then began plans of his own, investigating the possible new threat in Kayla and setting forth to unite all the drow under one banner... his own. Dismissing Kayla's small House as insignificant, he concerntrated his efforts upon the mighty force commanded by Loc'ress made up of her own House and her numerous allied drow households. He chose one course of action.

Sartglin hired a Vampire and his comrades to assist The Illythiiri assasin Byren on a mission. but a bitter secret love triangle set in motion by Etharas, ended not only in the fall of Princess Loc'ress and her allied forces, but in the death of Byren too. His murderer walked away free, but perhaps not to the prize she expects.

The leaderless drow Houses did not come to Prince Aero, instead they fell into a chaotic war amongst themselves with old bitter grudges renewed and a scramble for power in vacum of the fall of house Volk Rhi. Smaller Houses were trampled and began to flock to the side of Lady Kayla, seeking favour of the Goddess Etharas.

All the while, Prince Aero's rejuvinated forces began sweeping across the realms establishing his rule on those who surrended, and destroying those who refused.
Only the Lady Kayla might have stood up to him, with the aid of the kitsune Mamori who sought to restore the balance of things by removing Prince Aero from the equation, and Teak, the shadow mercenary who's fate was hidden from even the Gods. But a fracture in her own psyche and a spy in her own House saw her fall along with her allies at which time she disappeared totally from the Drow realms.

Prince Aero has now won and is to be crowned the first rightful King of all the Illythirri.... but the Goddess Etharas is far from thwarted.

For Prince Aero has also disappeared, a secret kept by Prince Aero's closest family, retainers and allies from the public. As they hold on to the newly formed kingdom, all the while searching for the missing King of the Drow.

Elsewhere a circle of demons laid claim to the Braskin Plains as their own, and though this seems far removed from Drow events, who knows how it could effect the future.

And hidden in the depths beyond the world, the Elder Gods though deep in slumber have sent their servants forth with missions of their own, ultimately hoping to return the realms to chaos and into their awaiting hands.

I feel despite the outcome of the Drow war, this is far from over and the future still remains dark and red.

The war had been a time of endulgance for Scythian. Assassination was a commen stragity if Drow warfare. While by far not the best, Scythian had become quite proficent in his trade. It was, afterall, the family buisness. Not that much family remained, and those that do have become estranged. But this is the life he chose. There is no more to be said of that.

It has been hours now. Growing sore from the unyielding embrace of the oak in which he perched, Scythian relaxed his posture. More in the killing of time than trying to find answers, he began to contemplate the magnitude of this war. He as well as his cousin Byren, seen as outcasts by their own village. Due to Scythians so-called unhonorable possition as a neutral. The village where they spent their child hood. The village where....

An undefineable emotion overtook him. That name, Byren. Scythian had not allowed himself to so much as think of think of him in what seemed like ages. He felt a strong hatered for his cousin. The prodigal son Byren. Byren, the great warrior, the arrogant bastard.
Scythian smirked. The great Byren was not so favored now. Like himself, Byren was now an outcast. Takeing side with the rebels... how could he be such a fool. It was unlike Byren to do anything that wouldn't get him praised. At a young age, Byren went as far to kill his friend, simply because their families were in dispute over property. The bastard knew no compassion. He was nothing but a........

Once again, an un-nameable feeling came over him. Why would Byren forsake his family to fight for the rebels? Could it be that he believed in something other than his own gain? No, impossable. Byren was selfish scum. And with that, Scythian pushed these thoughts entirely from his mind.

It was not long untill his mark came into sight. A few tree limbs, light bush, but all things considered an easy shot. Scythian drew his bow, aimed carefully, and sent a poison-tiped bolt through the targets torso. Not a perfect shot, but in an instant entirely effective.

This line of work was becomeing quite mechanical for Scythian.

Balord had spent months looking for the mysterious "Prince Aero". Still he was no closer than he had been when first he had heard of the great war of the drow. The fact that he had been a simple human at that time. After doing some research he had willingly completed the transformation, first to Elf then to Drow. His point of view still had not changed much...his own moral principals still intact. He still knew not weather he would side with the Prince or stand against him...but one way or the other he knew he would make a stand. During his long search he had met many people in this land of Gothador, a place of chaos compared to his homeland. The "laws" here were much different here, creatures he knew as enemies there were now counted among his friends here. His confusion only grew as did his need to see this war to an end...hopefully and end he could live with!

His Drow senses turned to defensive mode as he drifted into a light sleep, his hand upon the Overlord Lash at his side.

"Don't worry," came the soothing tones of the knight named Seraphim, "We shall be home, at the Temple, soon."

Home? Her home was destroyed!

No no, that wasn't her home, not really. The palace too grand, too uncomfortable to be her home...

...Her throne, her luxurious four poster bed, her crowns, her things!

Kayla really wished she had a cup of tea at this moment.

"Tea? Tea?" an inner voice hissed. "How can you think of tea at a moment like this!!!" Kayla ignored this inner voice and gazed into the flickering flames of the fire before her.

It was surreal to be in such a simple setting as this now after the grandure and complications of the past few months. To be camped in a sudden quiet of forest setting, Seraphim wandering about the edges of her vision as he looked out into the shadows beyond and Krum hovered somewhere where she could not see doing whatever the transcendant did. Kayla realised she did not know the knight that well, had never the time or opportunity since he had sworn his oath to do so... other things had always gotten in the way, drow things...

"Drow things?" the inner voice was not so easily silenced. "We could have won those 'drow things' been Queen of all the Drow, had that Outcast not somehow slipped through our guard. You should never had saved his miserable hide in the first place!!"

"But I didn't want to be Queen of the Drow," Kayla protested in silence.

"Who cares what you want?" the voice snorted. Kayla closed her eyes to face her inner self, a self that had named itself Kayli Quinn, the latter name from their sire. Kayli appeared human to Kayla, even though it had been a long time since either had been and Kayli spoke as if she were truly drow.

"Why wont you shut up?" Kayla asked.

"Make me," Kayli retorted and stuck out her tongue childishly. She crossed her arms and tapped her foot irritably. "Aren't you in the least bit curious about how our House was overrun??"

The drow knight was a little, but didn't mention this to her other self. "What does it matter? We lost, we failed those expecting us to help them."

"Pfft, who cares about them?? They never cared about us! They're Drow. They wanted us for what we could do for them! I just don't like losing."

"Kayla?" there was a note of concern voiced nearby. Kayla opened her eyes to see Krum glancing down on her looking worried. It was nice to see that someone cared for her, she thought as she offered him a small reassuring smile, even if she wasn't totally sure what that entailed. Krum smiled back and walked away towards the horses. Kayla looked after him a moment, before closing her eyes once more.

"We should go back," Kayli suggested.

"Why should we do that?" asked Kayla.

"For answers."

"No. Aero and his army could still be there. We should go to the Temple where we'll be safe."

"To live like a cloistered priestess for the rest of our days? No thanks." Kayli looked thoughtful, then beamed at Kayla, who in turn felt nerves in the pit of her stomach. "We should get Aero! Get him before he gets us!"

"I don't know..." Kayla protested.

"I want revenge," Kayli purred, her eyes burning red, as they had done before... many times before... "We want revenge."

"We want revenge," the magess said aloud suddenly, rousing alarm from her Knight protecters. They tried to stop her slipping away into the shadows, but they were far too late...

She wanted to claim everything was going as planned. But this was a lie. Not that she was uncomfortable lying to the universe and herself, so long as things were going in her favour, but currently they were not. At least, she smiled to herself, they were not going his way either. She watched him from her minds eye for a few moments, gleefully entertained by his... most unfortunate situation.

Boredom settled in moments and questions slipped to the surface of her thoughts, questions such as, How was it that one silly shadow mercenary, one that she had overlooked as insignificant, had managed to tip the favour of the battle to her enemies? She did not grind her perfect white teeth together in frustration, that simply would not do.

Her vision swept across Gothador. So, she noted, Nanaea had taken her awkward protege back under her wing had she? Then again, perhaps not... "What are you up to, young Kayla," Etharas murmured to herself. "What are you up to..."
