Welcome to the 7th Grand Graphics Tournament -- ROUND 5!. Artists today are gathered together to do a battle royal for top bragging rights and a bit of a prize. Who wins?

Well, that my fellow players is up to you!

The theme you're voting on is 'Freestyle'.

Freestyle is where the artist has free reign to create any type of graphics he/she chooses (so long as it's not animated).

Freestyle is a representation of an artist's creativity, imagination, and skills.

Below you'll find the entries. Please take a moment and look them over, vote for those in each set that you find most appealing and give a bit of a reason for your rating.

Please rate each entry in each group on a scale of 1 to 10 with a vote of 10 being 'this blows my mind it is so good' and 1 being 'this is phale'.

You have up to 18 points to distribute between the two entries in each grouping.

You DO NOT need to give out all 18 points. The MAX you can give is 10 points on 1 piece per group.

(Note: 10 points = +1, 5/10 = +.5, etc etc on tally sheet)

Please include a reason with your votes - you only have to give a reason for one per set. It doesn't have to be technical. You can just say I liked this one best, or something along those lines but we all know an artist thrives on feedback so don't hesitate to really say what you think.

If your vote looks like you're trolling or joking I will contact you about it, and it won't count unless I'm satisfied that you weren't trolling.

A ) 8 - I like this one more out of the two, seems to blend well together. 

 

B ) 7 - while this one is well done it doesn't appeal to me in the same way the one above does Sorry.

A ) 5 - This one just doesn't grab me, to be honest I would expect to have seen more done from the orginal image this late in the competition. sorry if this seems harsh.

B ) 10 - I LOVE this one, you can see how much work has gone into blending this together and it works well for me. The eyes bring your attention to the focal of the piece, very nice.

1 - 8.5/10 - Great Work in there! Love the spiky C4D in the background, Also the text is something that would be on the front cover of Assassins Creed Packaging for the game!

2 - 8.5/10 - Great how you have fitted the render with the background, and perfectly scaled render. Overall Great work!

1 - 5.5/10 Nice thought but not my liking really I would have loved to see the other half of that and the piece would have been a lot better for me!

2 - 3/10 I don't get whats going on in there the colours are OK but not to my liking. I just saw the text so if it was bigger and you used a Gradient Overlay in the text and Outer Glow it would have made the text look more illuminous (I know I spelt that wrong)

A - 7: why do they put white in front of the whole image, it makes colours look dull.

B - 7,5: to much going on ... can't focus on the imag

 

G2:

A - 7: I would have liked to see korra better worked in the background ... I also do not remember The Ledgend of Korra having much to do with stars, so different background might have been better.

B - 7,5 decent but I do not know what I should make of the two peeps in it. Could have been both on seperate image and won't miss it.

A - 8 ~ I love the background and the use of the C4D's with the piece, text is pretty great, I'm just not really "feeling" the assassin's creed render, overall good piece though.

B - 9 ~ I absolutely love the use of the render/background together, text is great, overall one of my favorite pieces

 

G2

A - 5 ~ I don't quite like the use of the text and how half of perfectly usable background is missing, decent piece, though not my taste.

B - 4 ~ I don't like this piece very much at all, the text is hard to find, and the 2 renders just don't look very good with the background to me, overall could have been better.

   A: 9/10  Simple but good graphics. I would have removed the numbers since they seemed to stick out as 'out of place' to me. The white may have washed out a bit more than I would have liked but it's a good job.

 

    B: 9/10  Nice work. Good detail and blending. Not sure what the second resource was since it wouldn't show for me. 

 

2.

    A: 7/10  Good cropping and overlay but not quite so artistic as the others. Not quite to my taste, but not bad.

    B: 10/10  Very artistic although maybe a bit 'busy' with so much stuff going on. Great job of melding and blending so much together without losing it though.

 

Pretty good job by all and very entertaining!

A - 7/10 - Excellent Text and Composition. 

B - 7/10 - Too many lights. A bit much on the contrast. Good Text and Render Placement.

 

G2

A - 7/10 - Nice popout and good work on rendering the energy ball. Good Text. 

B - 5/10 - Overall image is too sharp. Too Clustered and a very high contrast takes away from the good composition. Text needs work as well as better placement.

A -7/10 Like the idea, but the coloring and bluring effect is a little much for my eye.

B -5/10 Comes out in a 3d type way, just too much going on. Good colors.

 

G2

A -6/10 Distinct image with purpose. The 'comet' detracts and I am biased negatively toward anime, sorry.

B -7/10 I like the purple and the woman in the resourse, Just a little too much going on through the whole thing with the foreground and the back not quite meshing for me.

Neither really grabbed my attnetion. In their own way, both seemed to lack attention grabbing detail. The figures were starting to get lost in the backgrounds.

 

2A - 7

2B - 10

 

2B impressed me! Very good use of color contrasting to make the "black magic" jump out at you.

2A could have used a better use of color to make it more attention getting, good figure layout though.

A - 8/10 A nice piece but played out theme for a freestyle round

B - 10/10 It's more visually appealing. Everything works together perfectly. Fav this week

A - 4/10 I don't know.. I just feel like so much more could have been done to this

B - 7/10 An alright piece.. the 2nd render in the background draws some focus from the main render, just looks like it doesn't need to be there. Contrast and text need some work

Hello!  Awesome work!

Group 1
A:  10 - - Love this.  Took an image, which is sort of tired, as it's seen so much, but made it very fresh - at least to my eyes.  The energy and textures going on throughout is wonderful.  Admire the classic coloring with just a muted, clear pops of turquoise and red to bring it alive.  The lettering is a bit too vague for my tastes personally, but small matter.

 

B: 8 - - it's cool, but I don't respond to it as well as "A".  The eyes are probably exactly how they should be, but they seem to detract seems they needed a flash of color in their depths or something.  

Group 2

A: 5  --- not that different from the original piece.  It's cool that the 3D affect was done, but the "fist" I guess ends up just looking like a baseball bat and the original piece seems pretty much unaltered and not really unique, but I love what the artist was shooting for.

 

B: 7 - - I love the colors and feel of this, and all the textures and dimensions, but all the intense colors splayed out don't come together in the end for me as cohesive, though it is really beautiful.  The writing is just lost and almost as an after-thought, though I'm sure it wasn't.

Still in summary -- all are really terrific and they're just being judge amongst top competition.
