#857991 Variety in Play Style

Posted by Varkaz on 27 March 2014 - 11:36

Hmmmm, I see where your going with this. It would be a big departure from what we have at the moment. Which means that there would be a large scope for things going horribly wrong

Also it would also lead to confusion as to what armour would be good for Players to equip for their character. Confusion is bad.

The problem is also made worst when items interact with talents that can lead to overpowered outcomes, which we must try to avoid at all costs in a view to fairness between player classes. (We don't want all our Players suddenly becoming Mages for due to a miscalculation on our part for example.)

Saying that...

It might be alright for later on in the game, where Players are more comfortable with the game mechanics.

I'll mull this over with Mojawk.

We are keen to add more variation/interest to the items. We just have to be very careful about such changes. There will be no changes to the upcoming content, but we are open to suggestions and ideas and are not ruling out possible changes/upgrades to items in the future.

#282123 Eldevin Class Introduction

Nice all the way to prophet ! :)

Remember that you are NOT restricted to a single Talent tree, so you can take a few Mage Talents that will improve your Prophets damage dealing ;)

Loving the build diversity :)

That was our intention, try and find a build that goes with your play style.

Thanks for the run down, I think I will be playing the Assassin. I have always liked high DPS melee characters in MMO's.

The Assassin abilities are fun, remember that your Lethal Concoction does not harm you or your allies. So you can throw it around with abandon. Also you can throw it where you are currently standing to deal extra damage over time on enemies foolish enough to run up to you ;)

I also forgot to mention that with the Talent trees, you need to start from the top and work down. The lower Talents are unlocked by both the Character level and points in that particular Talent tree.

Enjoy.

#281103 Eldevin Class Introduction

Posted by Varkaz on 06 March 2013 - 15:05

Character Attributes:

These are absolutely critical  for your character. Every level you will receive 6 attribute points that you can assign to your character via the Character Sheet. These points shape the very effectiveness of your skills and abilities. Although some attributes are more useful to certain class types than others.

All Characters have the following attributes that describe various player characteristics:

Vitality: Increases maximum health and health regeneration.

Focus: Increases accuracy and chance of critical hits.

Energy: Increases maximum mana and mana regeneration.

Melee: Melee attacks become more effective.

Ranged: Ranged attacks become more effective.

Sorcery: Spell attacks become more effective.

Vitality, Focus and Energy are useful to every class. Melee, Ranged and Sorcery are important depending upon which class you choose.

Talent Points:

You will start to acquire talent points when you reach level 5. These are used in talent trees which affect your proficiency in a wide variety of skills and abilities. So it's best to choose wisely when considering where to allocate your Talent Points.

Character Classes:

There are 6 Character Classes in Eldevin. Unlike many other games, there are no restrictions to equipping items or armor. So if you want your Mage to wield a 2 handed sword, you can. Also there are few restrictions in using skills and abilities. So a Warrior can cast a fireball if he wants to. Although he won't be as powerful as a Mage casting a fireball, he can still do it. This gives you options regarding your style of gameplay.

The six classes are:

Warrior: (Melee Damage) Allows you to take down multiple targets.

Templar: (Tank) This class can draw enemies and take their damage.

Assassin: (Melee Damage) Mastery of quick damage and damage over time.

Ranger: (Ranged Damage) Specializes in shooting with bows with powerful abilities.

Mage: (Spell Damage) Can use powerful magical spells to deal large amounts of damage.

Prophet: (Healer) Heals your allies with powerful spells.

195x152_class_header_warrior.jpg

Favored Attribute: Melee

Melee Slots: 2 Handed

Ranged Slot: Throwing Weapon

Preferred Armor: Heavy

Clad in heavy armor and wielding a large 2 handed weapon, the Warrior wants to deal as much damage a possible, so Ranged and Sorcery are best completely ignored as Vitality and Melee should take up the most of your point allocation. Although only a fool will ignore Focus as critical hits can mean the difference between life and death in a tough fight. The Warrior uses Ruin to strike an enemy twice with their large 2 Handed weapon. This ensures the damage output is high even with such a slow weapon. Then with Bloodbath, a skill that strikes multiple enemies, coupled with the large damage dealing ability bane, the Warrior is a formidable force.

Need new items? In Eldevin City check out Slice and Dice if you need another sword or First Line of Defense for armor. The Thrown Weapon Vendor is in Eldevin Market.

Favored Attribute: Melee

Melee Slots: 1 Handed Weapon and Shield

Ranged Slot: Throwing Weapon

Preferred Armor: Heavy

Dressed in Heavy Armor and carrying shield and sword, the Templar can go toe-to-toe with any enemy and take large amounts of damage. As with a Warrior Vitality and Melee are the main interest for the Templar. A few points could be put into Sorcery so that the Templar can heal their allies more effectively. Some would say that the Templar gives up some damage dealing by carrying a shield. This is not the case, as with Vindicate the Templar charges the shield with a magical energy and slams it directly into their enemies. Not only that, but Impale draws foes to them and throws vicious ethereal spikes at all those who are foolish enough to come near. This would be deadly enough, but the Templar can also use Bloodbath with equal ferocity to any Warrior. With these powerful skills, the Templar can stand with confidence at the forefront of battle.

Need to replace your items? In Eldevin City check out Slice and Dice if you need another sword or First Line of Defense for armor.

195x152_class_header_assassin.jpg

Favored Attribute: Melee

Melee Slots: Dual Wielded Small Weapons

Ranged Slot: Throwing Weapon

Preferred Armor: Medium

A fast, high damage, melee, medium armor wearing class, the assassin uses their abilities to deal large amounts of damage and take out your enemies one at a time. Melee is your main attribute as you kill your targets with dual wielded small weapons. Although Sorcery and Ranged are of little use to the Assassin, Energy will keep your lethal abilities coming. Critical hits from Focus will also help to finish your foes quickly. The Assassin gets the most out of their razor sharp blades with Lacerate which deals additional damage and Rupture which causes their targets to bleed out over time. To augment this pair of vicious skills, the Assassin uses Lethal Concoction, an insidious skill that throws a pool of acid over an area which eats away at any enemy caught within it. With their Corrosion talent, the Assassin can make this Lethal Concoction truly live up to its name. In the hands of a skilled Assassin, Lethal Concoction, Lacerate and Rupture can be used with devastating effect.

Need to replace your items? In Eldevin City check out Slice and Dice if you need new small weapons. Also Eldevin City Market's Fine Leather Goods will have a good selection of medium armor for sale.

Recommended Assassin Skills:

195x152_class_header_ranger.jpg

Favored Attribute: Ranged

Melee Slots: Large Dagger

Ranged Slot: Bows

Preferred Armor: Medium

The Ranger is a master of bows and crossbows. Sorcery and Melee are avoided by the vast majority of Rangers as their main interest is the Ranged attribute to make their bows more potent. A Ranger's true strength is their wide variety of skills. This means that Rangers with high Energy ensure that they can use their abilities freely. Of course Focus is always useful for an easy kill. The first skill any Ranger learns is the damage dealing Black Fang. This is a staple for most Rangers, foes learn to dread the Black Fang's signature purple glow. Haemorrhage causes serious bleeding over time, which makes it the skill of choice for many Rangers to initiate combat. The Crystal Blast stuns a Ranger's target for a second, but this can be increased with the Concussion talent making this skill even more useful. On top of all that the Ranger also has Blazing Arrow, which incinerates any enemy caught in arrow's cone of burning fire. The finest Rangers are those who observe the flow of battle and use their skills accordingly.

Need new items? In Eldevin City Market the Fine Leather Goods store will sell you some decent medium armor. Also if you need a new bow, Dijan in Dead-eye Bows has a fine selection for sale.

Recommended Ranger Skills:

195x152_class_header_mage.jpg

Favored Attribute: Sorcery

Melee Slots: Staves

Ranged Slot: Essence

Preferred Armor: Light

You deal death with your arcane skills and Sorcery is your favored attribute. Due to this the majority of Mages simply ignore Melee and Ranged so they can concentrate their points into Sorcery. That being said, you must keep the spells coming, so Energy is also very useful to any Mage. Focus is ignored by many, which is a mistake. Critical hits will now and again will make you deal more damage and so save your precious Mana. Although Staves can be used for finishing off a weakened enemy, it's your Essence that you should use to deal damage. The talent Essence of Magic is extremely useful as you deal more damage with your Essence and it also tops up your Mana for free! The initial spell a Mage learns is Incinerate, a fireball that does serious damage. This makes it one of the most useful spells in the Mage's arsenal. Unfortunately there are times when an enemy does manage to survive the hail of Incinerate and Essence fire. It's then that the clever Mage would use Frostbite to root an enemy to the spot allowing for some precious seconds of respite to either retreat or decide on the next spell. When a Mage finds themselves facing a large group of enemies, they can use Blizzard to call a powerful storm of ice shards to rain down upon them. Something to note is a mage with high sorcery can also learn some healing abilities from the prophet tree to increase their survivability as they tend to be clothed in lighter armor.

Need new items? In Eldevin City Market you can purchase new light armor from the Eldevin Fabrics Shopkeeper. If you are looking for a new staff or essence Osrun's Magics in the Arcane Sanctum have quite a large selection available for sale.

Recommended Mage Skills:

195x152_class_header_prophet.jpg

Favored Attribute: Sorcery

Melee Slots: Staves

Ranged Slot: Essence

Preferred Armor: Light

A master of healing, Sorcery is the main attribute for the Prophet as it makes their healing capabilities more potent. This also means that the Mage's damage spells can be used, with almost as much effectiveness. Balancing their healing and damaging spells is the real challenge for the Prophet. Energy will keep the the healing spells flowing and their allies alive which will benefit from Focus. A critical heal is always appreciated. Melee and Ranged are generally ignored by most Prophets. The basic heal is Revitalize, this restores the health of the Prophet or targeted party member. Rejuvenate does heal over time allowing for friends to stand in the heat of battle when they otherwise couldn't. When a friend is overwhelmed by their enemies the Prophet can literally bring them back from the dead with an improved Resurrect. The Prophet is not just restricted to healing, they can also protect a single party member with Redemption that absorbs incoming damage. The damage absorption of Redemption can also be increased with the Prophet's Sanctuary talent making it even better. These healing and protection specializations make the Prophet an invaluable member to any dungeon group. In times of dire need the prophet can summon a Dark Prayer to heal all allies within a wide area instantly!

Need new items? In Eldevin City Market you can purchase new light armor from the Eldevin Fabrics Shopkeeper. If you are looking for a new staff or essence Osrun's Magics in the Arcane Sanctum have quite a large selection available for sale.

#281101 Eldevin Basics Guide

Posted by Varkaz on 06 March 2013 - 14:11

This is a very basic overview of Eldevin. It will cover the classes and important gameplay points to get you quickly into the game.

The Basics:

To move in Eldevin you simply click on the ground with your mouse. Your Character will then move to that point.

To target an Enemy you can click directly on the creature you wish to attack, alternatively you can use the hot-key 'E'. This targets the nearest enemy to you.

Your character's Health is shown by the red bar near the bottom of the screen. When you take damage your health is reduced. If your health bar becomes empty you will die. There are a few options to regain health. If you stay out of combat your health will refill. However, it is much quicker to drink a health potion, use a healing spell or eat some food.

439x85_health_bar.jpg

All your character's abilities are powered by Mana. The amount of mana available for use is shown by the blue bar that is opposite the red health bar. If your mana runs out, your character will not be able to use any of their powerful abilities. Like health your mana will refill in time if you stay out of combat, but it is much quicker to drink a Mana Potion or eat some food. It is beneficial to have a full mana bar so you can use all your abilities as often as possible.

285x92_attack_button.jpg

Character attacks and abilities are shown in the bar at the bottom of the screen. If you have enough mana you may activate one of these abilities by clicking directly into the bar. Although is it much more efficient to press the numbers on your keyboard that correspond to each section of the ability bar. It is worth noting that each character has both a ranged as well as melee ability. Weaken your enemy with your ranged ability before getting close enough to use your melee ability!

If your character does happen to die, you can be brought back to life at a Resurrection Point. These points are scattered throughout Eldevin and are looked after by a Priest of Life.

408x381_rez_point.jpg

After your spirit has left our body a respawn panel will pop-up asking which Resurrection Point you would like to re-enter the game at. Depending on the particular realm you are in there can be more than one option. To return to life, simply click on one of the options given and you will appear at that the chosen Resurrection Point.

375x191_death_panel.jpg

After you have respawned into the game, you will see the Death's Door effect in the top left of the screen. This is a 10% penalty in experience gain for a short while. This can be removed by the priest at the Resurrection Point for a fee, or you can simply continue to play and let Death's Door to run it's course. Each priest who is responsible for the Resurrection Point has a quest. If you complete this quest the priest will 'unlock' that particular Resurrection Point for you. The next time you are resurrected at that particular point, you will not suffer from Death's Door. As an aside, you do not suffer Death's Door at Dungeon Resurrection Points.

191x211_deaths_door.jpg

To open your Inventory, press I. You can then see the items your character is carrying.

Whenever you need to give an item, a 'Drop Item' box will appear. The box shows both the name and the shape of the required item. Just press 'I' to open your Inventory and click on the item you need, then press the button to hand over the item after it has appeared in the box.

680x358_give_item.jpg

This means it is impossible to give the wrong item by accident. The shape of the Give Item box also gives a hint as to which item in your Inventory is needed, making it easier to find.

To open your Character Sheet, press 'C'. You can see the equipment your character is wearing and various attributes. It is here that you can assign your Attribute Points to make your character more powerful.

498x464_character_sheet.jpg

To open the Map of the area your character is currently in, press 'M'. Quest locations are shown as purple dots on the map. The direction of the currently selected quest is also shown by a purple arrow on the rim of the mini map found in the top right hand corner of the screen.

229x158_quest_direction.jpg

Any in-game character that is not a Player is called a Non-Player Character (NPC). It is these NPCs that give out quests. If an NPC has an active quest for you, a yellow '!' will hover above their head. Simply right-click on an NPC to talk to them and see what the quest is about.

118x226_available_quest.jpg

There are Noticeboards scattered throughout the world of Eldevin. These Noticeboards have various items of interest, which include quests from time to time. If you have completed all the quests, you should try searching out the nearest Noticeboard to see if there are any new quests available for you.

To open your Quest Library press 'Q'. Quests in Eldevin are organised into handy Questbooks. When you learn a quest, you get the entire Questbook that it belongs to. This is an easy way to see all the available quests in a specific area. Available quests are highlighted in yellow. Quests that you have not unlocked yet are listed in grey. To read a quest, simply click on it. The quest will detail how many stages it has and a summary of what you need to do to complete it. Here you can also track a quest, to do this simply click the the quest tracker button which will set the quest as active. One it is active it will display the quest arrow on the mini map telling you where to go. Acquiring Questbooks  and completing quests is critical to your success in Eldevin.

We hope you all enjoy the Eldevin beta! Feel free to ask any questions and we'll do our very best to answer them!
