Just another threadless day at the forums? I think not.

Food for thought?

As a long time player, I believe that the app is an important part of addressing issues you illustrate with your second image.  Since I no longer own a pc of any kind, mobile access is important to me.  I play using Chrome like most do, but some things are tedious or near impossible on a touchscreen device.  Hunting is quite a challenge.  The app is faster and easier to see on my little phone.

I know that many feel that the app is unimportant, but I believe it will open up the possibilities to those that otherwise would not even attempt to play via browser, as 99% of browser games are NOT mobile friendly.

As for updates, completions of certain quests, etc, sure, I want these things for us.  However, the app team is just that, THE APP TEAM,  and others handle things such as new content or other new things and improvements.  I realize that being patient is difficult, but I believe it will be worth it in the end.

I do want to commend you for opening up a dialogue.

The app, to me, just extends the devices you play in. The issues with the game still stand. But it's buying them a lot of time on the "new" developments since short manpower etc etc.

The meme tier of this image is Tier 5 though, that I will commend you for.

But yeah, the app.

#  I am currently able to access the desktop version of the site on my phone just fine.  the image is tiny, but being familiar with navigation on my PC i can zoom around composing, AH, arena, etc... The app offers zero benefit to me personally, though i'm being told an app will bring in new players, which is good for the game

but

  Hunting is quite a challenge.

I am told that using the app, you have to kills creatures *one at a time* each kill taking several (3?) clicks/taps of the screen (then more taps to repair...no R on a touch screen). new players using cheap/free buffs might be ok with that (i predict pages of "somebody buff me please?" in global chat) but someone with 1,000s of stamina using uber potions that are ticking down along with their phone battery dying might be frustrated with that...someone hunting with say,  50k stam, will take hours on PC, and playing with your phone plugged in is the opposite of "mobile"

so, i'm hoping future improvements to the app will at least include a way to 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 mobs

Well now that we have been making some solid ground to do with the app its not nessesarily a bad thing. I have hopes that it will bring a new player base to the game. Although i do hope they still continue to support the browser version aswell as i wont play otherwise. We were their cash cow for over a decade so hopefully the game wont be tailor to app only players afterwards.

I would dare say 80% of the reason that things are broke in the game all relates back to player base and lack of fsp in game. Do you wanna know why 2012/2013ish fs era was considered the golden days. Thats because there was a massive suplus of fsps and the player base was high.

In reality, it's much faster to hunt on the app, and there's never any lag.   I actually did my 2xp hunt on the app.  Basically I use the browser now for things not yet functional in the app...  Battery usage is no different from using Chrome, unlike many app games that I play.

I know a lot of you feel the app is being given too too much attention, and it may be, that's not my call, and since i have selfish reasons for it to be finished and totally awesome, I'm quite possibly very biased about it.  But I do believe it's good for the future of the game.

Hopefully once it is finished, kami and conix will stay on and develop new content and/or activities for us.

I think we all would like to see the player base increase.

I use a phone most times to play the game. Only I use the Chrome Browser on my phone. I don't know if the app is good to use or not. I don't think I would ever use it. I would only wish that once its finished. That it brings in new life

  Hunting is quite a challenge.

it's much faster to hunt on the app,

please elaborate:

"quite a challenge" sounds like "more difficult"

i'm not understanding how it's faster, when i'm killing multiple creatures in the same time you're killing one

  Battery usage

i'm guessing 10% - 15% per hour?

I have no problems using a browser on my phone. I use Chrome. It's just as easy as doing it on a laptop or computer and with phones getting bigger and flatter with bigger screens. I wonder how many people who find the game will switch from the app to just using a browser.

Hunting is a challenge in a browser.  I don't have a keyboard when hunting on a browser, so there's no 12345678r for me. Instead, I have to zoom in to read the action list,  then tap tap on each critter 1 by 1, then refresh by tapping a teeny tiny circle to refresh. Then zoom out again to move.  Or use the old map....  It takes so long to hunt I have to reuse potions and repurchase some buffs.

The app, however is lightning fast, and there's absolutely no lag.  I don't get the frequent rubber band effect the browser gives me when moving.   So a regular hunt is back to half hour to 45 minutes unless I'm questing.

The app is 200% better for hunting on a mobile platform by far.

As for battery usage, most app games I play are real power hogs, and yeah, burn 15% or more hourly.   But Chrome burns roughly 5% hourly.  The app uses about the same power.  Since I'm rarely away from home, I plug in often, ofc, but only because I play so many games that are apps.

If only I could be as optimistic about the app as some.

Having spent 10 years on the game, and doing pretty much everything there have been to do, nowadays I dont do much else than level. Everything else has turned, well, stale and uninteresting.

I believe the app might bring in some new players, just not so sure they will want to stay.

But, lets hope for the best.

Dunno if I will be around to see that though. We will see.

I thought about this for a little bit, and this is what I've concluded.

We're in a period of null. It's a transition period from an older generation to a newer generation. Games going to your phones is the next big thing. Games stuck on the browser are your old-school isque type games.

It solves a lot of the problems the game actually currently faces, and allows them to actually cater towards that.

Why?

  • With a more consistent basis of having people joining the game, there is more reason to re-invest in areas of the game that low level players are likely to come across early on.
  • This then allows them to extend the process over the vast majority of the content that has been ''lacking'' in the current day and age. As there is more demand due to more advertisement and so on so forth.

Obviously I think established players and the community are going to have a huge part in that. Explaining so much content to new players.

Otherwise, there is no real reason for them to update older-based content like : unfinished quests (though in relation from what I was aware, the person who worked on said epic quest left HCS so i mean yeah), and various other things.

Fixing the problems of the game won't fix the new-player-experience. And in this day and age for the most part, a lot of it is on their phones :P.
