A full opt out of PvP would destroy the fun of PvP and any chance to bring it back to a highly active part of the game.

 

But, surely, those that WANTED to partake in PvP WOULDN'T opt out ? - so you could play with those folk to your hearts content...

 

Yes, that's sort of the PvP ladder now, within reason, but every man and his dog know that's as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike in it's current format. From a quick scan at the last ladder results, the 12 ladders from 1K upwards had players / entire ladders being awarded tokens for ZERO hits - and heck, there's 1 band with just ONE player on it, getting tokens. So, the ladder as such is a farce.

Your suggestion nearly kills the gold thieving/BB part of this game.. I hope we never see a full opt out option for PvP..

Let's try to steer this thread back in the direction of attack ranges in open world PvP please.. PvP can't have one thread so let's keep it simple and feel free to start anew thread with your ideas

Semantics Lou - levelling to me is progressing through the content - not regaining a level or two you may lose as ~ stuff...

"open up PvP completely, have no level restrictions but allow anyone who wants to, to completely opt-out"

comment too ..

No level restrictions means an open playing field for those that want to PvP ... but, those that don't want to, won't be on the playing field at all ...

 

Actually, Pardoux, this is a pretty decent idea... I like it and think many PvP players would as well... maybe the cows could develop this?

Expanding attack ranges.

 

If there are fewer online, I can see why expanding attack ranges is tempting as it becomes harder to find people to hit.

 

An unfortunate side effect of dwindling online numbers.

 

The main negative I see is it becomes much harder to escape an attackers range. In the past it has been very hard to escape a 10 level range against a persistent attacker. Escaping incrementally larger ranges may prove to be even more difficult.

 

If the cows want to give this a try - cool. I don't think it would be broadly popular, but that is my personal opinion. The old in game poll could be used to gauge its community wide reception prior to implementation. See what the whole community thinks of expanded PvP ranges before implementing anything. Forum polls are too limited. Or - the cows could unilaterally go for it and see what happens. The choice is theirs.

 

If they do give it a go, I think the sliding scale of increasing ranges seems reasonable. Of course 25 at EOC means there would be no escape as content comes out in 25 level chunks.... LOL!! How many folk can go 26 levels beyond EOC very often? (I'm saying this as a point of amusement, not an actual objection to the sliding scale idea.)

Although I'm not into PvP, I could and would agree to a wider PvP. However, PvP should be changed that both players (attackers and attacked) have to be at least to be in the same realm. I understand that PvP is part of the game, but to me it feels a little bit silly that the attacker can sit somewhere miles away and look through a list of potential targets.

In my opinion if one wants to do PvP he should also actively have to look for targets in the realms and use stamina the same way as levelers have to use stamina running around the realms to kill monsters.

I can guarantee that you'll get a comment here that references SigmaStorm2 and that games demise. What that comment says though is, at best, only partially correct ;) (sits back and waits for the inevitable comment ... )

I hardly doubt that HCS want that because from the last updates regarding PvP I have seen so far, there were only PvP restrictions (ladder hits not bounty-able, PvP protection dirt cheap, ...)

 

there was even some crazy talk about making "certain" bounties not bounty-able :(

I like your way of thinking back in 2008.  RebornJedi: "you should be able to use up to 1000 stamina for an attack. id love to see that added. pvp is dead. do something to save it." lol

 

6 years and nothing has changed... I like what TDA said there: "I could care less about PvP or gold for the most part, but taking XP for a justified (at least in my mind) reason is one of the better aspects of this game."

What a fantastic thread.. You see the discussed thought evolve from the games start.. Too bad the discussion stopped 4 years ago. Someone needs to research what has changed in PvP since the last post and start it up again. Its good to have that Erildath history for everyday viewing pleasure. Could make it a sticky again

I  aswell say no to this change.10 lvls up and down have enough targets to attack.No need to change it.

It takes me a while to get the full 10% on my prestige meter because there are so few in my range of +/-10.  Increases in attack range as levels increase just makes good sense.  Not much, say 5 for each 200 levels... didn't I say this before?

I'll admit I skimmed this thread and missed alot of posts, but imo it doesn't need to be that complicated. I would like to see an increase in level range, but I think increasing it just -/+ 25 levels across the board would suffice. Maybe -/+ 50 levels to open up the range for players over 1500.

As a bounty hunter, I also sincerely hope the cows don't make any form of pvp attack un-bountyable..

Accellerate content more targets will be in range. There is minimal if any reason to change the pvp range if content is accellerated through the mid points of the game. Retain Xinderoth and Karthak as they are and boost the content xp output through 1000 or so. Increasing the amount of xpgain per hour or the number of xpgain upgrades that both items with that feature as well as removing the nerf sub-500 on xp gain....

 

Acellerate content more people will get past Karthak into what will soon be the second THIRD of content. Thus more targets for those in the mid levels. This is a issue more about people being spread too thin because content takes too much time to get to the mid point of. If there are more targets, then range is not an issue.

 

Furthermore how does this help for the whole concept of "don't like someone who is slamming you via pvp, level out of range" This would basically completely eliminate the notion of leveling out of range. This is a band-aid at best and seems like it's only going to appease a few people, while annoy (at a minimum) many others who are still playing.

 

I've said before prestige farming will go through the roof if the range is expanded.

 

I think luis had a really good point in citing that stamina used in pvp hits should play a higher role in the amount of pvp prestige gained. IF there's more incentive to 100 stam on a prestige hit I'd think by default it'd increase the amount of BB activity as well.

 

Also as some said, I think some just want more easy targets who won't give them any real trouble than actual desire to pvp. It's not like you have 6 people in your range in the entire game like I do. If you're such great pvpers who love to pvp, you should be more than willing to hit the people in your range, if not, then you're not being serious about it, and just wanting an easy hit to farm gold/prestige out of, not actually pvping people. (The whole thing of being able to pvp someone who has been offline without buffs while you stack up on your stats is a bit idiotic imo anyhways.)

 

As was cited "I just want to pvp" you have people in range? Go smash them then? If you love pvp as much as you claim you should be doing it, or did they get tired of being poked while offline?

 

It's about the number of people and the pace of getting through the content. This is just another side-effect of the early content not being accellerated fast enough to have people in the mid game content to keep up with the game as a whole.

 

Expanding the range of pvp sounds more like a bit of laziness than anything imo. What ever happened to those who used to DELEVEL to get to where other pvpers are at and smack the snot out of each other? Oh right, they left because pvp became a drama-fest.
