I understand how frustating it can be to log into a silent guild and get targeted by a gvg. I applaud anyone listed as a mentor, as there is a lot to learn in game, and gvg's are no exception.

However, players in gvg's already have uncalculated protections in their favor based on their level and amount of activity.  No one is getting pummeled for months on end while they are away. 
 

Being slammed with a GvG in the interim is not conducive to player retention...

Besides broken gear, there is no real risk in terms of xp or gold loss in gvgs to targets.   This is a point that could be best explained by a mentor.  The opt in system is for when real loss is at stake, not annoyances, like on the ladder.  With the system granting RP to any guild that finishes their hits, every guild gains something.  I fail to see how an honor system needs to even be considered for a next to no risk situation.  Gvg's need a revamp more in line with Ryebred's suggestions from years ago.

I'm reasonably sure that Scoops also fits this category.... He was a pretty stand up dude.

 That is a very strange look on the game. Let me paste you some other ways to look at it (from the old forum, so the quote tags prolly doesn't work as intended).
 

 

The thought, at least up until til now, has never been for players to have a way out of PvP. There are instalments in game for players 'emselves and their xp, and that should be more than enough. Heck, you have even separated the logs/msg system, so they can avoid seeing in their logs if they have been hit, or not.

This game used to be huge, filled with a massive player base, who all partook in the game - and the forum. I am not saying it is the only reason, or heck, it might not even be a reason - but the more PvP has been shot to pieces, to appease those most vocal (and with the liveliest credit cards?) - the more the decline of the game (the more have left the game).

 

I got my first dominance medal back when you could get bashed around by anyone, at any level. That, was fun. Joining a ladder, where most only reside to earn a few tokens and lose some more xp, so their next hunt may be a little notch longer - is plain dull.

 

Oh, and I totally got of mark. My point is actually pretty simple: Stop acting like you're afraid we're all a bunch of babies, that will cry and whine if "the eeeeeevil" part of the game somehow manages to find its way to us, and start making the game more playable - by for instance increasing the PvP range.

Don't need no fancy pancy system, just make it +/- 100 level for all (except for new comers, let them keep their cushion).

There. Sorted. Can we move on to something that might actually need discussing now?

Problematic is problematic, annoying is just that... an annoyance, nothing more  

  Any progress on increasing the 256 character limit on messages?  I just tried to send a 3 sentence message and was notified it was over the limit.  Seriously?  I know HCS changes servers a lot but are you paying by the word now?  I can't even give another player a decent explanation of game mechanics with the current limit, how are new players supposed to learn if all the current players won't even bother trying to help because they have to split their messages into segments so small it's not worth the effort? (<= 419 characters without spaces, 515 with spaces)

I've seen multiple occasions on various ladders where a player/s hits everyone once, or even multiple times for a few hours, and then opts out to leave the ladder.

*Said* player/s gain Dominance medal ticks, and smasher medal progress without a risk of being hit back or bountied.

As an example, I just had a guildmate log in, and try to return a few ladder hits. Only to find out they couldn't due to the player buying protection and leaving the ladder ( and his pvp range )

Can I just ask what the cows thoughts are on this? I know you have oodles in the pipeline, and other priorities, but I'd just like you to see how frustrating this can be to anyone who plays the ladder or plans to.
