I reached lvl37 on an alt so I went to the notice board and picked up latest quest, "Peril of the Dryads".

 

But, when I go to colonel knox he has the ! above his head, I click on him, he just says "state you business or leave" with the option of "sorry im lost" or "I want to look round" and nothing about the quest at all so I cant proceed with it.

Interesting. I got the quest from him on wednesday (yesterday). Maybe related to any faction or honor state?

Did you check your questbook to see that there aren't any quests before that? It might be part of a questline where 2 quests mix up and you jave to complete one first there's a couple of quests directly to the east that have to be done first east as in enter troughthe big gate and straight to the east

yah crip may be right or if it's not exactly that I do recall how sometimes these quests you have to read the description in the book really carefully and maybe click back to previous quests along the same line.   but I believe he's correct, there is something you need to do first before knox.

 

I don't know if the wiki has info on the quests but you could also see if that gives a clue.

 

I'm terrible at recalling all the quest lines and such so even on meo it's sometimes a search and destroy mission if I get lost in a quest line, lol.  gl steve o/

The quest start at Colonel Knox and you get the quest from the boards. If the Colonel doesnt start you cannt start the new questline at all. I have the same problem. I already have send a ticket to HCS.

you start the questbook rite of worth first where the first quest would be proving stature

I had a look at wiki and colonel knox is the start of a questline.

 

I had a go at sending a ticket, but when I tried to "report a bug or glitch in the game", it says "This type of issue is currently being dealt with in one of our forums. Click here to visit the relevant forum." Obviously when I clicked it, it brought me here

The most common cause of this kind of issue is that you're close enough to interact with an NPC, but either there's something in between you (no line of sight means no conversation, but can interact for flavor text) or you're standing about 4 yards from the NPC (close enough to interact for flavor text but but not close enough to start a conversation).

If the problem isn't with the quest but is indeed with this issue, then the easy fix is to stand directly next to or on top of the NPC before trying to interact with him. This will remove any line of sight or distance issues.

Hopefully this helps. If it doesn't, then the issue is with the quest and you'll have to wait for HCS to fix it.

Thanks Brioche. I have had that problem in the past so did try various postions at the time, I even tried to stand on my head but to no avail If he was a she I might have tried even more postions

I had the same issue on one of my alts. I went to talk to colonel Knox. And he took me into the quest where you talk to the prince. And do the quest to kill the dragon. I never got the choice of doing the Peryl of the Dryads quest. So I couldn't start the Great Tree questline. Which sucks because you get a massive amount of XP from those quests.
