Only a few months some of us have been waiting a few years :)

Haha many many many years. I only check back every couple months. How will the paid aspect of it be? Just a special currency?

* MOD EDIT: Split this off in to its own thread for discussion.

It's still under consideration, we're happy to hear opinions from you guys though. :)

I like League of Legends (and I'm sure many other) paid systems. Where you can buy the items with in-game money however can also buy it with paid money. With visual items being paid only. Giving no one benefits. However the way the new Guild Wars 2 game does it is interesting. An exchange system where you can buy money with in game credits or paid credits. (Also other games HCS own have similar systems ;) )

Here are my two cents; not sure if I'll be able to do it neat, but I'll try -_-
  • 2 different coins: ingame gold:droped by mobs, reward for quest, etc... (since now gold), and one coin you can buy to HuntedCow for real money (since now cashgold).
  • An ingame Auction House, where players can exchange items and also gold and cashgold.
  • All the items of the cashshop are bought ingame, and in order to get them you have to pay gold AND cashgold; doing so I think that the exchange market for gold/cashgold would be more active.
  • The Auction House would determin the exchange value of gold/chasgold ( 1cashgold= X gold)
  • The price of one cash shop item would be ( Y)cashgold AND (Y )* Xgold. (where (Y) is the amount of cashgold you have to pay for the item.
  • There would be freedom in order to buy cashgold from time to time, not buy cashgold at all and get it via the auction house, or buy certain packs (subscriptions for certain amount of time), if you buy this packs you would be given the equivalent of the spent money in cashgold and an extra percent based in the pack you have purchased and also certain perks ( I know that a lot about this perks can be argued).
And now try to understand what I mean :D

Exactly, no matter how good the game is, if its P2W its mostly ruined. But I dont expect the folks from HC to release a P2W game. They dont have the greed that ruins every single game of companies like Bigpoint.

Auction house for items, and gold to RM currency well I agree with that.
But buying Armour with actual stats that affects your character, well thats falling on P2W, and even more if the Currency exchange doesnt get implemented.
I agree GW2 has a very interesting currency exchange system its almost exactly as you say in here, I wouldnt think twice about spending some money in this game, but thats if I can use any gamecard, or giftcard to redeem.

Still to get a game free of P2W, Cosmetic items, as said b4, is the way 2 go, but there are other services that can also be applied and aren´t neccesarily P2W, as, some extra character slot, or inventory slots.etc.

The point here is not to fall into P2W,its neither good for the player, nor for the dev, I myself have seen how some P2W games, die without players, and extreme unbalance at everypoint thanks to the greed added to the game.

Well I neither would like a Pay2Win game, what I posted is an idea about how could work the paiment system; a different thing is the features of the items sold, and I agree that shouldn't create a big unbalance between players, but we also must keep in mind that people paying for this items will be looking for certain advantages and of course the hard task is find the balance in order to make this items tempting enough for spend real money and at the same time don't make them in such way that would turn to the players who bought this items in "semigods".
Of course will be easy talk about the possible features of this items when we know the Eldevin features, for example:
  • Are items degraded by use?, and if that's the case:
  • Can be repaired?
  • Are repaired by an NPC, or must be repaired by players via learned skills?, maybe both options?
  • How are skills learned?
  • Just learned when you reach certain level?
  • Is needed have a scroll in order to learn the skill?, the scroll is sold by an NPC, is a quest reward, or must be got via drop?
Etc, etc, etc..........
How I told in the previous post, lots of things can be argued about all this

In life the things aren't white or black, the certain is that they are composed of a beautiful variety of grey tones.

I'm hopefully waiting to see if they learned from their other games. I'll not be donating to this game until i see it is set up in a way that doesn't give players with a big checkbook an advantage over another. But for some reason i have hope, i dont know why. LOL

Just do noti make it pay2win please, those game are really awful to play..
Please dont do it so you can "buy your way" through something or buy to be strong..
Cosmetics, skins, artistics whatsoever of that kind is nice to have as a paying aspect..

I would love to see items like xp scrolls, more inventory and bank space, gems to upgrade gear, respec items but make it cheap so people can try more things.I hate when games make it like 20+ euro just to respect and in the game im playing right now is only 2 euro and 50 cents.

  • The problem with Pay to Play is that people will have to pay in order to play the game. This will make it impossible to play the game for those who cannot pay. And it will limited the number of people who will try out the game.
  • The problem with Pay to Win is that the gap between the rich and poorer players is big and it discourages poorer players to play because the rich will outclass them (through money) most of the time.
  • The problem with Pay for small things (like cosmetics) is that it will likely bring in too little cash to run the game with.

I'd say a system with Pay to Play would be best if it was combined with the option to play for free (but with limited game possibilities). For example, people can fully play the game for £3 per month, and people can also choose to play the game for free, but then it is limited by something like the amount of time you can play (for example for 1 month), the loot and XP you get (for example, you only get half the loot and XP other players get), the maximum level you can become (for example, you can only level up to level 25), etc.

A system of Pay for cosmetics could still be present alongside the Pay to Play system. It's always nice to wear a Halloween outfit or dress your pet up as the Easter Bunny. :D And people will be willing to pay for those. Just not enough to make the entire game float on it.

I think the general feeling within the studio is to avoid Pay to Win and focus more on cosmetics. Perhaps unlockable features that are very handy, but not necessarily essential.

I very much appreciate this. I think that the players will reward the developers for having such a laissez faire approach. I don't have enough money to pay a monthly fee; if I did, I'd still be playing WoW, and wouldn't be here in the first place. By making these things cosmetic, when I do have money, I'll be able to donate some and get a nice little extra something.
