I was troubleshooting an unrelated problem with my Linux Java install (upgraded Java 8 version, and then the applet would not run in the browser), and I happened to look at the source of the login page in the web developer console.

There were 4 links that would not load, 3 of which had obviously malformed urls in the form of:
"https://beta.eldevin...netdns-ssl.com/...", and one seems to be a failure to load the resource "https://eldevinweb-h...na-ssl.com/beta", which I can't find on the view-source page.

The problems don't seems to be fatal, but I thought you might want to know.

Hm, wonder if this has anything to do with my problems getting into the game. I'm an old-fashioned man o' letters, not much of a tech guy...

New information.  The malformed URLs do exist, but have nothing to do with the error I was getting.

It's a new 'feature' in Firefox 25.0, 'Block Mixed Content'.  The main 'beta.eldevin.com' site is secure (https).  Apparently, there is also some non-secure data on the page.  The new FF, by default, blocks any non-secure content on a secure page.  Since I was running my local file as 'http' I didn't run into this problem.

There doesn't appear to be a whitelist for trusted sites (there is a bug open requesting a whitelist).  This leaves two options:

1)  In the address bar, to the left of the URL is a shield icon.  Press this to temporarily allow the site.

2)  In a new tab, enter 'about:config'.  Find the entry for 'security.mixed_content.block_active_content' (search bar is easiest way), and set to false.  This completely disables the feature, including the added security it is meant to provide.

I have a similar problem with Firefox 25. The update installed on 6thNov prohibits the loading of the applet to log in. Does anyone have a fix maintaining the security?

You can press the shield button to allow it on this page only but you must do it every time. This maintains the security for other websites. We're looking at fixing this for the coming launch.
