I probably should have posted this earlier, but maybe it's still some good.

Both the domains www.gothaguide.com and www.fallenswordguide.com used to be registered by Crace (at her expense) - the Domain-Registration lapsed after Crace stopped playing the HCS-games. It has nothing to do with the hosting itself, that's still on the Hunted-Cow servers.

(in short, it's a DNS-problem, not a hosting-problem)

As a work-around, it is possible to edit the so-called "hosts"-file, so that your own computer knows where to find the Guide, even if the rest of the internet doesn't know it.

[*:trsnwjik]Under Linux, you need to edit as root the file /etc/hosts
[*:trsnwjik]Under Windows, you need to edit as Administrator the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
You need to add to this file the following line

87.106.222.84 www.gothaguide.com
You have to separate the IP-address and the name by at least one space (not tab!)

Once that is done, the Guide should work again (except for updating the completed quests, which I still didn't get around to fixing after they changed the login-method )

Finally, after many, many transatlantic phone calls and e-mails, I can happily inform you that the Gothaguide is accessible through the domain once more.

Yipeee!

Edited the first post to show a work-around for the GothaGuide until DNS-setup gets sorted again.

for those who do not know how to edit the hosts file, open it with notepad

here is what mine looks like, and opens fine in firefox

# Copyright © 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
87.106.222.84 www.gothaguide.com
::1 localhost

Random question... why doesn't using the ip address direct atm work?

87.106.222.84

Comes up with this domain is registered for one of our clients or something... I use direct numbers for other things *shrugs*

Alright so I use firefox. I opened the file, edited it with notepad to add that line but then it would only let me re-save as a text/notepad file.

Now how do I access the site? What do I type in the bar? Because http://www.gothaguide.com just times out.

When you edit the "hosts"-file, you have to save it under its old name or it won't work. - If notepad thinks it needs to add a ".txt" to the end, then put the name in the "Save File" dialog in quotes, then it should work. ALternatively, rename the file later with the Windows Explorer.

Once the new gothador-line is in the "hosts"-file, the guide should work with the usual address. Using the IP-address directly won't work, because GothaGuide is a virtual host that shares the IP-address with the FallenswordGuide and possibly others.
