I think still have the toplist showing who owns what but give them the ability to turn off that they're online like Mongo suggested (invisible mode).

I believe that is what people were more after for a bit of privacy whilst they wanted a quiet day and no pm's to come on their main to tank etc.

reminds me of:

If someone is nasty one one character then do you really want to be friends with them on the nice character? I find it pretty false behaviour.

Hidden toplist would also encourage even more people making multi accounts as no-one would be able to check, which shouldn't be the case and they should be discouraged.

i agree

there should always be a way of finding all the alts of a character for this reason

I expect the mail and friends updates will have to roll out at the same time, I should think there'll be an official update post about them in a couple of weeks, maybe sooner, they're close but need finalizing.

Remember to REST :)

It's a full time job rememberings names and half the time I get them mixed up.

I've seen alot of names that look similar to my alts names in the last week which makes me worried will they get recognised as me and potentially scam or do something which I actually wouldn't do.

Alot of people either don't know about toplist or simply it's a pain in the ass to check every person you meet are they a alt.

yah I"ve seen a few names in the past that have part of my main's ign though it's only because Bliss isn't like uncommon word.   also a friend made alts for fun with some our names worked in them which I was honored that he made a funny lil alt like that though I was asked if it was me once already lol.

But having similar names happens in games all the time so even if you can add friends alts to your list there still can be confusion at times.   only difference here is we are not supposed to have more then one account so once we have someone on our list if it included their alts we should know who is who.

of course unless those that make multi counts and continue to do this are caught there still can be that issue, people just have to know their friends enough to know they aren't scammers and be sure to ask questions if in doubt about an ign they see with similar names as those we know.   at least that may help some. idk

games where you can have multiple accounts and up to 5-6 characters on each can be crazy having experienced this in other games lol.

Slow but steady wins the race or something like that.

I'm just taking it slow, not sure about the steady.

I like the idea of having a something like that.   this is the first game where you can see lists of everyone's characters though I noticed that this isn't always the case.  I think I've noticed that some won't appear unless they reach on of the top lists.  not sure how it works but it doesnt' quiet act like a list of every and all characters in game.   or does it?

it pretty much does work like that

there are a few bugs where you can't find the main so have to search for an alt to find them and there are a few which seem to be orphans :( but in a lot of those cases the player did a name change so that is a bit understandable

While this would be ideal I think accounts have an id and all characters are connected to it, so with this, your friend list would be full of numbers instead of names

There is a name behind the accounts as well. That is what they show here in the forum. I  don't know if it is just the name of the main character, but at least it is a unique name.

If friends are now invite-only (about time :D) - maybe it'd be helpful to update /where command to include server? Not sure if possible but it currently does say that a player is offline even though they're on another server. :)

only problem with the invite system is existing friends. I have several I haven't seen in ages but would still like to keep on my list incase they pop up again

One idiom is that the current 'stalker' list will be redundant as we cant assume you have each other as friends, nor can we assume to make those invites for you (cos a % of them are probably added for stalking :) ),

I don't get this. When you are changing things, so that we now need mutual acceptance, it is the same as saying that you will no longer allow stalking, so why keep that list?

Wouldn't it be better if you made those invites automatically, so that people can actually see who is stalking them, and then remove them from their list?

It seems like double morale to have them both.

Yes its more likely now we'll send 'character wide' invites of your current friends list. We really don't want peoples friends lists being completely wiped, so the side effect is that if you have 'stalker friends' they'll get sent as invites also. So you'll need to remove those soon if you don't want them sent out as invites. There's no perfect solution here, but we're thinking we'd rather not wipe all friends, especially for people coming back after a while to no friends any more, ones they can't even remember the names of lexically. If people have each other added as friends they may well be auto-accepted as each others friends right away. Also, you'll need to re-invite friends as 'account wide' if you want them that way after this revamp.

Its not ideal but we're thinking this is the best solution, and most important is that the friends list is sorted to a nicer thing.

Those complaining about not being able to 'stalk' people any more in this fashion, well its not really what the friends list should be for, and what you're then really asking is for something different, more of a 'locate' / notify online character finder. The /who command allows that a little.

Players should be allowed to set their account to 'anyone can friend', at least until we have an AH.

If I see something I'm interested in via the Market forum, I add the seller's name to my friends list.  This way I can easily see if they are online, and which server.

Meleager, ranger

Tuor, templar (Inactive)

Deimos, mage

Thangbrand, warsin (Mostly on vacation)

Bart, ??? (bene trades)

i don't like this idea i don't always want to play with the same people some times they get on my nerves. If i make a alt i should decide for myself if i want people knowing its me. Sometimes i just want to start over from scratch and don't want people knowing my new char. No one can tell me to give all my chars names to people just because i might add them to a friends list.

I see where you're coming from but having it this way is typically how you get trolls abusing the accounts.
