Ability to suspend a buff?

When I was hunting the other day, I stumbled upon a quest, that required me to kill X amount of creeps, that were now 2 levels lower than me. I had 2 choices...

1. Get rid of my active doubler potion, buy another one. Kill the creeps, complete the quest, activate my new doubler potion, then go back to killing creeps my level.

2. Keep my doubler potion active, kill the lower level creeps, complete the quest, but use lots more stamina than I would of liked while gaining below par XP per kill.

Now I was thinking it would be helpful, in this situation, and probably many more situations in your own gameplay, to have an option to "suspend" any active buff.

The buff time would still decrease as normal, but you could activate it again at any time before it runs out. So when you click on one of your buffs it has an option "deactivate or suspend"

What do you think? :)

It's an interesting notion, especially with the caveat you added of the timer still running down / option of deactivating OR suspending...

agreed -- this would be useful with NVM and CA as well as doublers.

Yes to this, plus the ability to adjust the level of the buff while its active (SC, NMV, CA, Barricade)

There would definitely be advantages to suspending buffs, especially in pvp. Get all buffs and then suspend or activate individually according to your setup so BB and ladder would get very interesting. I'm not sure you should be able to turn on and off without some sort of penalty like reduced duration or a little stam charge but the idea has merit.

I had not thought of this idea costing anything, it is more of an addition that would make each players personal gameplay smoother. Allowing them to fully control which buffs they have active, being able to switch between them as they feel the need.

Saying that though, I read lots of posts on the forum regarding "gold sinks", so perhaps there could be a small gold charge...

"Would you like to Deactivate or Suspend this Buff?" > Suspend

"You have chosen to Suspend this Buff at a cost of 5000 Gold" > Confirm

Would something like that work?

Very nice idea, as long as the remaining time counter is still ticking away while the buff is suspended. You wouldn't be gaining anything by making it last longer - stretching it out over more stam gains etc, so it's not something that would really be abuseable. Just useful :D

You had at least another option couple of option which I usually employ:
Finish your hunt as normal and when the you run out of stam with the doubler, turn it off and go back and complete the quest on single hits or wait until you fill back up again and start your run without doubler and finish the quest off single stam before starting full. There are times I wish I could turn a buff on and off as needed once cast, but I don't think I NEED the ability.

I usually backtrack for quests at the end of my hunt without doubler too, even so I think if you paid for a potion or buff (or used stam to cast it) it would be useful to be able to use it - or not for it's duration as you require. NMV is quite stam costly, and lasts forever, so casting it when needed for a few hits etc, then taking it off, and casting it again later (repeat repeat repeat) can be a bit of a drain :lol:

I thought of another use for this option yesterday, while using a Ruby Chest. With AM working 100% I had no need to move except to change maps, I could of suspended lightfoot and activated it again, only while travelling, to allow reckoning a better chance to kick in on one of my XP buffs :)

i think this is an amazing idea with hundreds of uses. i might be a little bias being a reck hunter stuck in karthak. it would be nice to be able to suspend all of those inventing skills while im doing a quest that requires no inventing or just leveling to the next area.

wait...someone has to find something negative about this idea otherwise it might get implemented.

Cool! Thanks for your reply Master Hoof. I posted earlier in the thread about a 5k Gold cost each time it is suspended, so it could also work as a little Gold sink that everyone keeps talking about :D
