There should be a huge gold reward for completion of Karthak/Mt. Volmar quest line at 1k. Bias, nah.....of course not.
Why ?
Homer : Marge, don't discourage the boy. Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals .. except the weasel.
Eddie Izzard : The National Rifle Association say that guns don't kill people, people do. But I think the gun helps, you know ? I think it helps. I think just standing there going "BANG" - that's not going to kill too many people, is it ?
I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but it seems that everything I eat lately turns to poo ...

Why ?
I'd imagine all the quests from 1k-EOC might cost as much as these two lines if you added them all together, is a reason. I actually have no idea if that's accurate, but it could be.

Could possibly be true, can't remember to be honest - that doesn't mean that this quest arc should get a huge gold reward tho ? - that quest arc has been around for donkeys years without one after all.
If it aint broken, don't fix it ..

If it aint broken, don't fix it ..
I spent 250 fsp to do that quest arc... the gold was a bit daunting (I had to get some funding by a 3rd party).
But in the end it was fun....

my choice was to skip that arc when i looked ahead at the cost - it's still showing as active in my quest book @ 36% complete

The quests can be 100% bypassed, one of the few places in game you can level on a critter "North Gate Sentry" 10 plus levels higher than you and then farm the champ at 968 to get you out of there.
This is the beauty of Varkaz's work there was always an option to find a way around road blocks.
And fundamentally the quests were a down payment for your ability to hunt the dreadlord and profit from it Something that still exists today because of how well this area was designed and implemented.
