Note that only players who have either attacked or defended will be included in the ladder.

i believe that is a time before opt-in was the option. players would get on the ladder, but not want to be on the ladder. either as a defender, accident, or tricked, these players thus complain.

The ladder has been opt-in as long as I can remember.  Reset used to be more predictable, though, and I believe that random times for it were added at the same time that opt-in/out were restricted to resets.

You may be thinking about Seasons, though,  which briefly replaced the ladder.   I believe that was auto opt-in and caused quite a stir.  I never participated as I was inactive during that time, but I heard through the grapevine that this was one of the major objections to that venture.

Maybe it refers to an earlier time.  I'm sure there are many pages that contain obsolete references of some sort.  Pretty sure only a cow could explain this accurately.

That is a good question. But I do enjoy getting ladder tokens while I am on vacation.

as i recall:

someone named "p" came up with the terms ladder and ranges (not rungs) - terminology still used - in the forums. i was the only one in the forum to use the term: bands. anyway, the ladder was created more or less following the suggestions of "p."

so, "p" would also know.

The ladder came into being in late 2008 or early 2009....  Other than that, my memory fails me, so I do not recall who this "P" might be.

i did not know pvp ranking system was called the ladder from the beginning. i knew the term when used in discussion over dividing the pvp rankings into level ranges.

"brackets" nov 2010 47772

(aside) update aug 2010 45610

(far further aside) sun tsu 26267 showtopic=

the ladder divided into level ranges is more recent, 2010.

i still maintain the op's query refers to a condition that no longer applies, and should be replace with an "opt-in" statement. further, i also maintain: unless explicitly changed the older rules apply.
