why is the upkeep so high? this makes it hard to prosper in a smaller guild, especially with a low level player base few in numbers, 55,000 a day seems far-fetched for a guild necessity such as this

That's not really high.
Get some friends,work together,invest FSP's that you've collected while playing the game or donate to get them.
Running a guild isn't and shouldn't be an easy job.

And check the game,there are many small guilds that prosper in this game just fine.

if you have 4 or 5 guild mates, that is only like 10 or 20k gold a day. that is very easy to achieve if your trying.

Try keeping up with 3-5M gold per day in structure upkeep. much tougher.
