I see quite a few posts from people asking for things like auto route, quest finder, etc.  As it is there is a sense of exploration and wonder in the game, an old school feel that I was drawn to regardless of the old graphics and I know I'm not alone.  Add all those modern "features" and you will kill the thing about this game it really has going for it, that all the AAA mmo's released in the last 10 years (minus maybe Vanguard and a couple others) have lacked - gameplay that encourages exploration, using your brain, reading quest text, and interacting with a community of people to form exactly that - a community.

Less is more here.  Less hand holding and playing the game for you equals more sense of accomplishment, community and fun.  There are endless mmo's out there that cater to those that want to be catered to - let them go there and please don't change this game to accommodate that mentality here.

Yeah, seen a few of those.

Makes me wonder if some of these players actually played games that have the Auto-Route Feature..

And how fast it ended up getting bored for that Player.

or Loss of interest.

I totally agree with you!!! I like this game mainly for its difficulty! I think that exploring and discovering things on your own is much more fun and much more satisfying! make the game easier will remove all these satisfactions!

Really? Because I'm sure that the developers disagree with you. When there are only a handful of people online who are only playing because they've spent so much on supporter packs then you'll realise how important casuals are.

And the suggested improvements (I disagree with auto walk) don't necessarily make the game easier but instead offer more utility. And even if these are added, that doesn't stop you from not using them.

No Challenge = No purpose. Id rather play a game that challenges me than one that holds my hand to endgame. Wheres the fun when stuff is easy to do?.

Very well said. A game has to have mass appeal if it is to survive. I've watched many MMOs fall through because their target audience was too small. I enjoy the game the way it is, but every gamer has their own style. To each their own, as long as it keeps people playing and keeps the game alive.

This game does not take long to max and the professions don't take that long either. Just give it time, once leveling guides and places such as the wiki and fan-sites have lots of information it will make the game SO much easier.

I can guarantee that most players here, who have played other games would of excessively used guides, wikis and fan-sites to get through content efficiently and fast.

The game is not hard as a free2play, the people that claim it's hard are most likely comparing themselves to supporters and people paying for a bonus. You're only going to be grinding some more.. which is the price for being free2play.

The way I see it this game had two major choices for supporters. Restrict content or allow supporters to have access to exp, gold, valor and reputation bonuses. They made the right choice, if they chose the other route this forum would be flooded with "Restricted content, not playing!" etc.

I would argue that by trying to appeal to the masses and appease everyone you just become one of the hundreds of clones out there already with no lasting appeal. That's one of the huge problems with the genre - companies trying to bring as many people in as possible by doing a ton of different things in their games but none of them very well because the focus is all over the place.

You say you've seen games fail if they don't appeal to the masses and I say I've seen plenty fail because that's all they try to do. Thank god for kickstarter as it seems to be the only way companies are able to fund games that are not cookie cutter copies which is all investors seem to want and pretty much all we get anymore.

Someone posted on mmorpg.com about this game saying why play this when you could be playing something like RIFT. LOTRO, EQ2, whatever - all f2p mmos also. And that's the thing - they don't have the sense of exploration, adventure, accomplishment, and community this one does. But if this game decides to do what every other game does by dumbing it down to appeal to as many casuals as possible then it truly is just another clone and there is no reason to play it over those other games.

I mainly agree with the OP.  After all, if you want a game that does all  the work for you, you should be playing Progress Quest.   :P

I could care less either way about auto walk, if it wasn't for the fact that this game has so many damn quests that includes a ton of traveling back and forth, back and forth, and so on.

If you want a game that has a ton of manual traveling, don't put so many quests, and maybe make it so you can actually see the landscape. Can't see hardly a thing around yourself in this game ):

If you want a game with a ton of quests, and still have so much traveling, its very friendly to the players to have the option of auto walking, doesn't even have to be auto-walking directly to quest locations, at least be able to click on the bigger map.

And if you avoid games that have auto walk, that's terrible. That just goes to show that they makers of the game are thinking about their players and wanting to do everything they can to make them happy here n there. Besides its an option. No one forces you to click that button to auto walk. If you wana explore, you can explore, if you wana get things done faster and less tedious involved, well that should be allowed as well.

I'm already level 10 and getting sick of having to walk everywhere, just to realize i missed something and have to go back and continue to walk everywhere yet again. And then again when as I keep leveling up, to get the new quests, just to walk all over the place, yet again.

can i ask a (what seems to me) a verry simple question here.........

Why do all of you opposed to things like this CARE AT ALL if other people do it... you enjoy walking around and searching... great continue to do that but why the need to force that on everyone else.....

do i want auto pathing myself? not really.... but do i care one bit if others do it? no... but i certainly do care if it'ld attract more players to play with...

its the same shit with group summoning before it was changed... it had absolutly no impact on you if people did it but SOME PLAYERS felt no one should so bitched and complained untill it was changed and now we have yet another restriction in the game put there because people thought everyone should play like them...

Then happened again with energy.... hcs can be quoted saying "we are increasing the costs of skills because we think people should need to put points into energy"  why the hell FORCE a play style on people.. makes no sense at all to me...

then again same thing with experience differences lets make it harder to help friends that might just be starting out...

restrict restrict resttrict... drive away...

*shakes head* make no sense... especialy when a main point in the games advertising is the freedoms...

do everything you can to attract and retain players not conintualy try to FORCE them to play a way that you or SOME people feel they should ....

no longer playing so feel free to ignore more (if i even post) just do still follow forums so MAY comment from time to time.

I agree a lot. The games (and everything else) that prosper (grow and make money), are the ones that try to evolve the game around making everyone happy, and do what they can to attract more people with all kinds of preferences. It's just making more options available to make people happy, and you can chose to use those options, or just as easily play the way you want to play.

It's quite annoying when people say that they will quit a game if they don't change, or do change something. If its just a few people that threat to quit, then that's their fault. Its either you lose a small amount of people, to gain hundreds more attention (maybe more?), or keep what you've got, slowly losing people, and slowly gaining people, staying about the same population.

Its good that they listen to the people, but I hope they do it with their smarts. I haven't been here long enough to judge on any changes. I just hope they are smart enough to ignore the whining, threatening people, who just act like babies if they don't get what they want.
