This suggestion is a summary of a chat on EU server we had yesterday:

If there are bots found, instead of banning them flag them as free to hunt&kill (maybe with some small award for successful "clean-up" - Wanted board with a quest to hunt down criminal XY). That way the community will get some free additional content and the bot gets the lesson learnt (or ends up with naked ass due to durability penalties on equipment).

didnt think someone will really bring our joking in chat up as suggestion :P ...

i like bots being banned over any other activity ... because even a bot that can get hunt down is a bot ... and it wouldnt really be good for HCS either, if you see for example 10 bots in the game in the knowledge they know its a bot but dont do anything against it ...

And if noone in the community would care, or to times where almost noone is online and has other things to do, bots would still dominate :P

This post made me lol. Did you think this one through?

1. A bot is not a person, it cannot learn a lesson.

2. A botter normally uses a seperate noob account to farm a resource, they don't care about a naked ass.

3. This actually encourages more botting; people will just vault their gear and then bot and some people might get creative by abusing the award through killing their own bots.

1. > bot will hardly respawn and walk to a place to continue farming

2. > bot that gets killed will hardly farm anything, thus the noob account will be useless

3. > not if they lose content of their vault/inventory after being bot-killed :P Abusing award is still a bit issue though

Guaranteed way to rid the game of gathering bots:

1) make gathering afk and increase the crafting exp needed to level.

2) add a pk option in the gathering with the potential for loot drops. This will give high levels the desire to guard gatherers, and add late game content. Max levels love pvp drama, it's really the only thing to do after everything else is done (other than find a new game I suppose).

3) pat yourself on the back, because bots are gone.

I agree with ComradeLewis, afk option for cash would increase revenue AND reduce some of the bots. =)

Simpler solution. Permit anyone to "tag" anyone with "possible bot". Permit anyone tagged to clear the tag from character popup. If not cleared within 1 minute, character auto logged out. Tagging not possible in pvp area. Prohibit tagging after clearance for 5 minutes.

  • logged out bots are useless so discourages use of bots
  • being tagged as an active player by a vandal is very minor annoyance, trivial to clear, and with 5 minute block after clearing tag, cannot be harassed.
  • no need to submit ticket or report, staff does not have to be bothered

the problem with that is now you can set "craft all" to do its work and go do something. I just did 2k leathers and could have been logged out for botting as I know I wasnt watching the screen for 5 mins a couple of times. Could still be abusable in that regard.

This is a valid point. However if you found yourself logged out I guess you would just log back in and resume. Suppose level  20 and above characters were immune to tagging? Doubt gold farmers are going to run each bot up to level 20 just to bot. Alternatively make city locations immune to tagging. So tagging would only work on resource gathering, not processing. Dunno but I suspect there is a better solution than just reporting.

a bot can only gather from set points if the points move every time they are used using a bot becomes pointless

HCS has already said they've been considering this.

This is going to make things a bit more difficult for average players, maybe more fun but still slightly irritating.

I thought of a way to counter autoclickers ( but it doesnt work with scripters / macros )

As we have one click gathering now ,to counter auto clickers (who exploit the fast respawn of any resource) if any person clicks a resource more than once ,the resource gathering stops there . So this stops auto - clickers and they need not increase the respawn time so that the legitamate gatherers wont suffer .

An auto clicker isn't generally something that will keep clicking (maybe in it's very basic form). You are usually able to set the time you want the auto-clicker to click, so you set it every "20 seconds" for example.

This idea wouldn't stop anything.
