Hi all,

Had a thought today. Some of the aspects of the game are quite complex for new players (as has been pointed out in numerous threads before), so I was thinking it would be quite cool if veteran players could submit guides that were displayed within the game. These could be categorized as to what they relate to (Leveling Guide, PvP Arena, Composing etc.) and once submitted, players could then upvote their favourite guides, making the best guides filter to the top.

Thoughts? :)

Many players have already made such guides and posted them on the forums or guild web sites, so if you were to introduce a reward system, some people would probably just do a forum search and pilfer other players' work and mash it into their "own" guide. Why rewards though? What happened to doing guides just for the good of the community, as we've done for years?

I think those guides are great too, but it would be cool if we could tie in the guides more directly to the various aspects of the game I think. For example, on the composing page we could have links to the top 5 highest rated guides for it (or something along those lines).

For rewards - I just thought it would be a nice to give something for helping the game and community by creating an awesome guide - it's just an idea tho :)

The composing wiki and the excel files are excellent resources (as an example). Just hard to figure out. As a new player way back when, I remember players sending me tons of links. I was (and still am) one of those lazybones that just don't read. You are on the right track as the learning curve is daunting for this game but not sure this is the way to do it as Cyrus pointed out.

I volounteer at making a brand new GvG guide :D I think im considering to be one of the more competent GvGers and I have advised and trained a bunch of players and initiates into GvG.

What my Key points would be:

GvG Setups

-> Defence Setups

-> Armour Setups

Starting a GvG, Tuvoks guide to success

How to make em loose 101 Guide

Secret tactics and tricks

Since Im a merc GvG leader aswell I would make a second guide for the Guild Leaders and Council if my first guide would be well recieved:

Payment Methods ( aka. How to hold a strong GvG group)

Dirty tricks as a guild leader to "winning" aka. being Charlie Sheen of GvG

Growing your GvG department

What you need to consider

Guild bases and foundations

Specialized guilds and why they are needed

In b4 Skittles comes and calls me a farmer and a specialized GvG guildleader who doesnt value the old values of GvG and Pride. :3 A guide on "how to pride" by Skittles would be an interesting and fun read!

Vala Morghulis!

Why does everything need a reward? The community has already put together tons of guides so far it just takes a link for those who want to read it. If you put it ingame it will most likely get skipped over with all the superfluous quest dialogue.

I was thinking we could add an organised collection of guides that can be upvoted by the players to a section within the game.

They don't _have_ to have a reward - I just thought it would be a cool little perk for helping out the game and community if the guide gets featured :)

Many of the existing guides are pretty awesome. The problem is they are all over the place. A quick start guide would be nice but anyone ever look at the newb guide in wiki. Very well done if not outdated in some respects. But again. Too much reading for the short attention span folks like me ;)

On the subject of tying a player composed guide to the game: I agree with the fact there are many guides out there, most are quite well written. We have the Wiki (player composed) tied into the quests guide.

Since there are already player guides and they are available to those that are willing to look through them; to make them 'direct linked'  should be a premium type service for the requesting player whether it be gold or a one time FSP charge. (I abhor laziness)

I am NOT in favor of a reward system for authors because it cheats the ones that have made guides in the past.

While on the subject of helping the new people:

(Please note that the ability for new players to give Karma to Mentors will be implemented soon)

Just curious as to what the ETA of this might be.

I've removed the suggestion about giving rewards from the original post as I see how this could be an issue with the existing guides.

As for the guides within the game, I think it would preferrable to have the content within the game. I'm not opposed to having external guides, the downside of them being external however is the site it's hosted on could dissappear etc.

It wouldn't be a huge task to have a simple guide editor within the game whereby you could submit and edit your own guide which would be attributed to your character. There could of course be multiple guides on the same topic, but I think having many different perspectives on the more complex aspects of the game can only be a good thing :)

Copy / Paste by original author to whatever you set up shouldn't be hard :)

Another tab (where ever) saying: Stuck? and have links to [what ever] would be cool

Aye if we categorise them we could have links to the relevant guides in each of the different parts of the game  :)

On a related note, I have never been able to update the wiki. I'd love to participate in the limited areas where I have a little knowledge.

Defiently need in-game guides, some players won't go to outside sources plain and simple.

My suggestion -- add a game guides section to the UFSG, then link to the topic/s there from in game.

Horrible idea. You would have different and conflicting advice from every guide. Too many ego driven players in this game to allow an open forum on nubcake guidance. Absolutely hate this idea.
