Symptoms different from those in the thread 'Game crashes out of the blue', so I start a different thread for it.

Basically either the client or Java itself hung (beginning of the dungeon floor with Horus on it) without any sort of warning; I could alt-tab to other tasks which were still running, although Flash was also frozen in Firefox (but that is a known and periodic issue, easyly solved).

I then terminated Flash, reloaded a browser page. Flash reloaded as usual, but the client would still not come back to active duty (tried this in case one induced the other, seen weirder things happen)...

Eventually terminated the client, which was at that point found 'not responding' to Task Manager' and took a couple of minutes to be forcibly closed by it.

I then restarted the client, without any further symptoms so far.

Just had another one, this time there was clearly no link with Flash, since that was still working correctly.

Btw, in the few weeks since I have been back I did not see ANY staff response to issues posted, is the staff still looking at reports ?

I suspect they might not given the obvious low population of the game, which in my view is entirely due to bad marketing decision: doing exactly what had been discussed in CB and they had promised back then that they would not do (this is off topic for this post, just a hint here, they will know what I am talking about IF they still read topics).

I just had a MUCH more serious freeze.

First, I had seen over the last weeks that java/the client hogs resources when logging out to character selection screen, or when exiting directly (this on a Quad cores system !).

This time, it did that again when exiting to the character selection screen, then a few minutes later the computer became completely unresponsive (alt-tab and ctrl-alt-del would not even react any more, even after several minutes wait); I had to take the last ditch option of shutting down the computer through the power switch.

This ONLY happens with this game, and obviously it is not something I can keep having and being happy about.

This can only be caused by somehow Java hogging the TOTALITY of system resources, nothing else can prevent ctrl-alt-del from responding (even intercepting keyboard input should not intercept this key combination).

Doing that while it is supposed to RELEASE them indicates a serious bug in the game memory management routines; it looks like it is taking MORE resources instead of releasing what it was using until that point.

Anyway, I will wait a few more days to see if someone from staff answers, otherwise it will be bye-bye.

Sorry for the slow response. We're a bit stretched thin lately.

As you've said it could easily be the game client or Java itself. We've not released any client updates recently, that doesn't rule out it being a longer standing bug though. The freezing and hogging resources doesn't give a lot to go on.

Which version of the game client are you using, browser or a standalone?

Which OS are you using? It sounds like Windows from what you've said, if so which version?

It could be useful to have the contents of the log from a run after a freeze/crash has occurred, it might point to a cause. Acquiring it differs a little depending on the client version.

For stand alone versions on Window the logs are in:

\Steam\steamapps\common\Eldevin\log.txt

or

C:\Program Files\Eldevin\log.txt

C:\Program Files (x86)\Eldevin\log.txt

For Browser Applet run with Java Console and copy the contents from console.

cygnus does the log.txt get wiped after you restart the pc? or is my ccleaner wiping it. i've looked in my txt and it starts when i had to restart my pc after client crashed as the client crashed my pc so had to reboot. if it's ccleaner i shall stop it from starting up on pc start and then i might get some info from log.txt that might help.

sound like we are having same issues when the client crashes, i'm on win 10 and using the steam client.

forgot to add that my txt log starts at 14:11 which is after i restarted the pc and started up eldevin again so not sure my txt would help from them so if it happens again should i get the txt log first before logging back into eldevin?

I am running the non-Steam client version, and I have only been able to get back in game a few weeks ago (since beta and until then I was not able to load the game again); I first managed to get back in (with new chars since mine had been wiped as planned at the end of beta) the day the last even ended (I saw the last few hours of it).

As for O/S, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.141211-1742)

I will check the log immediately after the next time the issue occurs, and attach it to a reply here.

Definitely, logs as a rule are rarely incremental, otherwise they could become huge over time.

We don't remove log.txt so it sounds like ccleaner might be the culprit. We do overwrite it every time you start the game though, so if you have problems make sure to copy the log.txt somewhere safe before starting the game again so you can send us the contents.

I've had similar problems on two separate occasions (a very long time ago) with two entirely separate causes.  In both cases the game shut down during graphics operations (as is apparently true in the above log).  Fixes as follows.

The first time was trying to run Eldevin on an underpowered PC (did not meet the minimum requirements of the game, although it did have a supported GPU).  Turned out I was overloading the CPU, so Windows XP automatically shut down Eldevin without informing me.  Fixed this by 1) disabling all background tasks (including services, processes, scheduled tasks, etc), and 2) shutting down all other programs before running Eldevin.

The second time was apparently a bad file.

Run the diagnostics.  Especially the 'Run', 'Validate', and if necessary 'Clear' options.  In Windows using the stand alone client, from the Eldevin installation directory:

jre\bin\javaw -jar eldevindiag.jar  (note the path is required to insure you pick up the correct version of Java)

(Yes, I realize the first is unlikely and you've probably already done the second.  But can't hurt to mention it.)

Good Luck!

cheers, first option i wouldn't even bother with that, and second option i have done. the pvp crash must be a bug as it happens now and then and when it does happens it's all ways at the same potion when the queue gets to 8. and others time when you lagg out and the game crash's thats random.
