What vendors pay for crafted items is just plain ridiculous. Takes me 2 days of cold hard skill'in to get to level 16 leather working.

 

Costs me 17 silver 77 copper (Lime salts + Glue + Sale Price of gathered materials) to craft a pair of gloves.

 

What does vendor offer me for them? 5 silver 58 copper.... really? That doesn't even cover the cost of the lime salts and glue I had to buy from NPCs!

 

They were slightly better than the gloves I was wearing which were also level 16 gloves. So I swapped them out and I went to vendor the gloves I found off a pig.

 

How much does vendor off for those gloves which are WORSE and were a common green drop?

 

57 silver...

 

 

It's cheaper for me to farm and skin level 19 creatures, sell everything to vendor, and buy all the leather produced by the new players and craft level 2 boots over and over again which I have been doing for the last 14 leatherworking levels...

My LW is only lvl 5, but it appears the issue also exists for XP.  During the beta there was some overlap where crafting a lower level item was better.  But at level 5 crafting level 2 is considerably better for leveling, and based on the scaling for higher level items this won't change anytime soon.

 

Does this also happen for alchemy and cooking (the other professions I've started )?

It doesn't change at all, because of vendor prices, it's more cost efficient to skill up with level 2 boots than anything else all the way to level 40 leatherworking.

I posted this in beta as a potential problem...that we'd be crafting the level 2 boots all the way to the end and it would be ridiculous to do so.  They replied that they were making some changes to the experience gains so that it would be changed...but with the release now it's still the same as before.

 

Be prepared to craft level 2 boots forever...and not make any money from doing it lol.

In the original part of the beta - you could make a small profit from crafting items. I think people were making too much off of crafting, but these prices are ridiculous. I think you should at least be able to break even / make a little profit from vendoring crafted items. Level 2 boots for Smithin cost 60 bronze - they sell for 15 bronze.

i'll just be crafting the same item hundreds of times... what a horrible crafting leveling system!

I agree, cooked up a meal using butter and made it,and I checked out the price and this meal aint even close to what butter costed me and im wasting alot of money trying to cook better foods but with the low level cooking recipes I believe I was making more money.
