Anniversary is such funny word, don't you think?

It's my 13th anniversary in Gothador and it seems so strange...strange because I remember how vibrant and active both the game itself and this community were.  Now, the game is a ghost town and these forums are like an old, empty mansion...silent except for the occasional whisper of a Phantom passing through.  Rooms haunted by memories of the people who passed into my life because of it--some of whom remain, and some who have passed on.

I could suppose that it's the morbid fascination with old, broken things--like derelict ships or abandoned trains--that keep me coming back (there's little reason to actually play anymore, except that I still love my characters), but truth be told it is that I am grateful.

There's another funny word.  Grateful.  Growing up, I spelled it "greatfull".  It just made more sense to me that one was 'full of great emotion', rather than full of "a frame of metal bars for holding fuel when burning, as in a fireplace, furnace, or stove".  Heh.  Anyway...

If it weren't for this place, there is so much I would have missed out on.  I surely wouldn't be writing in my own Universe.  I wouldn't have been blessed with my life-partner.  There would be no memories of Andor's humor, and no conversations with Frank.  And no delight in knowing that two of the games I now play will never hold a candle to Gothador in its heyday.

So happy anniversary to me, in this strange and formerly wonderful place.  It's been grate.  Er...great. :P

Cheers.

Happy Anniversary!!  I've been here forever as well and have now embraced my slacker status. Thanks to an awesome Bonded, I might actually reach 50k but besides that I don't play much. I refuse to leave though. Like you I have many fond memories. Several former players are on my Facebook and it's always nice to see how their doing and see the occasional comment on another former player's posting that references their old personality or a memorable situation.

Congrats! (a month late of course)

I suppose I am a bit the same.  Not much of a gamer at all, never have been.  But, Gothador had a community that was fantastic, and that made all the difference in the world.

Hero to benjirocks, what else matters?

I will forever be nostalgic of the community that gothador once had. When the bovine gods actually showed us attention and the population thrived. Yes, there were games like Everquest out there and others that were coming to life, but I remember.. when Tabula Rasa and Guild of Wisdom were in their prime and we had radio nights with Jinxeth doing DJ and we would all kick back and run after stuff from an invasion.  All while trying to Dodge Morbid or Sephidroth.

Those were some great times, and I will always be thankful for the day I met you OG. One of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. And others that I got to know pretty well like Nyarlathotep and Nibbler and Mystical. There were some incredible people here, and while I cling to that nostalgia it leaves me a little forlorn as well knowing that those people have moved on to other things and we'll never share the joys of exploring the realms and doing things as a group/family.

It's bittersweet in a way, but I also remember the fun I would have talking to Capadocious and Morbid and Gallowmere after coming over here from Vampires!. But now it's as you said darling, phantoms in an old empty Mansion more often than not unfortunately :(

Wow.  Another year has passed, and...

nothing here has improved.  Can't say that I'm surprised. sad.png

Hello OG, I remember you well from my days as an active player. What I most remember about you was a story you were writing, did you ever finish it? I think you had stopped posting it on the forums because you were hoping to get it published.

I've been wanting to come back to the game but can't figure out what email I used and damned if I want to start from scratch  B)

Now I wonder if it will be worth playing  :(

Hi Mekare...I played RedImo. I was very surprised to see that I was able to re-awaken her just by logging in through Facebook. Now, I'm trying to decide if it's worth paying for a sub so she can wander around more.

**Jaw drop**

So nice to be remembered!!

As a matter of fact, I'm still working on that story.  It has evolved and changed, so it's not quite as it was when I was working on it here.  I had hoped to have Book One out long before now, but Life had other plans.  :P

Good to see you!   :D
