I've always been a fan of games that have interesting and varied cities. For some reason I just love spending an hour or so in the wild, and finally reaching a new place where I can rest, explore, and learn a little bit about the culture or vibe of the new populace. I'd love to hear a little bit about cities in the game; I saw that the FAQ states there are to be many, and that the lore will be complete. I'm excited to hear more. :) Cheers.

Hi :D

We've spent a lot of time working on the population centres throughout the game, by far the largest of these is of course Eldevin City itself. The best way to show you the scale is with an editor grab of the city I think. Bear in mind this is from our level editor and in game you wont be able to see the city from this sort of angle ;) It's also still a work in progress, needing final detailing in some areas.

And although it's the biggest it's not alone. We have the mage town of Mythos, Nidaros; a small mining town, Roshaven and the Island town of Illaneska :

Don't worry you will have maps to help guide you around these places ;)

I can see i'm going to spent hours lost in these places :D

I prefer cities to be more chaotic, this seems pretty organized lol.

Interesting point. I know what you mean, I think. I'm looking forward to seeing what the other cities look like.

The best about cities is they can put you in a completely different culture/scenery and tell so much about the history of that area.
In my opinion the architecture is what makes a city. The things you can do there (trading items, visiting people, getting quests, healing, etc.) is all secondary to how the city feels like. B)

Architecture is important for sure, but I think that story is the most important. If the people of the city don't feel real, then I'm not really invested in helping them. The best RPGs make a city feel like a place you're actually in.

One thing HCS really needs to do is, make sure all cities are unique in some way. Let me better explain myself. Im goin to use world of warcraft as an example. They have about 4-5 cities on each side. Only one of them on each side is really populated because they made no reason for players to go to the other cities. In here they should definitely give different incentives in different cities to assure a more populated world. I dont know if i made myself clear, but I think you all know what I mean lol :)

I know what you ..maybe make one a major spell resource gatherer/selling city another city the major ore gather/selling place ,, you would of course want to be able to buy/sell ores in the spell city and buy/sell magic resources in the ore city but make it a very limited option so for the best results you need to go to the better of the two and so on for other things

Something quick in the same line that previous posters:

Differente prices (sell/buy from NPCs) for items based on the city; threfore if you want buy something the cheaper, you would need go to city A, and if you want sell the same item at the best price you would need go to city B. Well..... maybe not always cities, what about NPC vendors in hidden places of the map with great sell/buy prices and some great items too??? :P

In life the things aren't white or black, the certain is that they are composed of a beautiful variety of grey tones.

Sounds interesting.
Some places may have specialised in certain goods. So one city might have a great blacksmith and thus can create good and cheap iron armor and weapons, while another village is great with leather (leather armor pieces) or in wood-working (excellent bows).
Maybe some items are cheaper there, or even some items are sold exclusively in those places. B)

Cities are part of the game I'll be looking forward seeing. Ones in pictures look absolutely great. And I agree with earlier posts about unique cities, hopefully smaller towns drag players' attention as well. Many games has pretty much 1 or 2 centers where players tend to spend their city-time and rest of towns are abandoned and have lost their meaning.

I'm just a tester at HC and have been for about 6 months now, I can't speak on behalf of them but I can say that each city is completely different and has it's own unique look, Mythos is mainly a city of Magic so obviously it looks more mystical, Eldevin City as you saw in the picture is HUGE, it took me about a month to fully learn where everything is in the city, even though I still use the map lol. Then there are other areas that look absolutely gorgeous, not gonna spoil anything though :)

That sounds great :D I have always liked games that make their cultures feel "alive". It adds a whole new feel of exploration. Thanks for sharing that with us!

Wow, geek eye candy!   Any chance we could get a flyover the first time we visit these cities?

It's very blocky, but it still has charm and I can see myself being immersed into the atmosphere of the city. Much better than I expected.
