I noticed this several times that XP suddenly recedes on some of the kills instead of increasing. It gets more noticeable on DXP hunts, but it happens regularly. Why is that when we are investing in buffs to get more XP per kill?
XP decreases during hunts (not dying)

Even when you are hunting at your own level, the XP per critter is variable to begin with so you won't be getting the same XP for each and every one you kill.... That XP is also dependent on if Librarian kicks in, whether Reckoning hits on Doubler or Librarian... I'm sure there are other variables as well, such as Overkill, etc, that can raise or lower the XP you will get ... Also, a lot of the critters in a realm are from the previous level, and if you just breeze on through, just killing everything in sight, those are gonna give you less XP than the ones at your current level.

I understand variable XP. But when I see XP get credited and then the XP bar going backwards, that does not make sense to me.

I've seen it do that during 2XP, I think it's kind of a lag issue, but I can't be sure

Rubber banding when you're clicking too fast
Somehow this doesn't sound as weird, Lol, but if it actually is what happens, then I am spending 1.5 times the stamina for some of the kills and not progressing as I should with all those buffs.
I use number keys. That does go considerably faster than clicking around. It is easier on the hand too.

It is a visual bug, you are not losing XP.

If you reload the screen your xp will re adjust. Or if wait a moment and attack another creature it will adjust again.
