That's not quite the case Chealsea (not sure who said that). We're very much trying to balance the situation better than it is now. The argument is perhaps in making sure that pure builds have their one strength that they are the best in the game at, but not all round heroes.
For example a pure healer should be simply the ultimate healer in the game, but probably lacks in dps. Pure Templar should have the highest agro generation etc. Pure mage should have the best wizzard hat obviously This is kind of necessary otherwise all the classes blend into the same thing. Also class balance is something even the largest and most successful of mmo's struggle with - it's really difficult to get right.
We're still gathering all the feedback from the various threads about talent changes, from which we will try and take the best decisions we can about the changes.
