The problem I see on crafting are the secondary resources price.
You're already spending a LOT of time gathering materials (time IS money, even on a game, because the time you spend gathering resources could be spent doing quests or instances wich would give you lots of money), then you still have to buy the secondary resources (the first tier costs 10 copper).

Let's say that when the game gets live, a copper ore sells for 10 copper, a coal sells for 5 copper. Add 10 copper from weak flux, and a copper bar will cost you 25 copper. A basic copper belt needs 5 copper bars + 1 copper rivets. This means 1 silver and 35 copper to craft 1 basic copper belt, that wields arround 42 exp on armorsmithing. I know that, from lvl 4 to 5, u need 1320 experience. this is something arround 31.5 belts, wich rounds to 32 belts.

32 belts would cost you 4320 copper, or 4 gold, 3 silver and 20 copper (if I'm doing the right math, I hate to work with more than 1 decimal), just to lvl armorsmithing from lvl 4 to lvl 5. So, targeting for LOW, leveling to lvl 10 (where you can craft the first token helmet, wich is the only itens that'll give u profit selling for players), you can expect to spend something like 30+ gold (no return AT ALL)! (taking account of primary and secondary mats).

I've leveled it up to lvl 4, almost five, and got the "spent 1 gold with vendors" achievment, ONLY buying the SECONDARY materials... and all this gold came from a source that's not repeatable: quests!

And even if you don't take into account primary resources, only secondary resources price... a copper bar still costs 20 silver to be made. 1 silver per belt, 32 silvers total, getting back like 3 silvers... it's 10% of what u've spent only on secondary materials...

if it could be at least 80% return (lowering secondary resources prices or increasing crafted itens selling price), crafting would still be not profitable to lvl up, would still be hard, but at least would be less frustrating, since you wouldn't have to stop every half craft lvl to go find money to keep leveling, seeing u already have to stop to look for resources...

4320 copper is actually just 43 silver, 20 copper.

I've finished talking about some of these things now as we have no real clue what's going to happen.  We don't have time to test these things fully before launch.  We're just going to have to figure it out after that and hope for the best.

I'm starting to think things may not be as bad as first thought, but it does mean there will have to be different things done by the player to make crafting and questing work.  Basically...people are going to have to work hard, and be smart about it.  I can live with that.

Would you like some cheese with your whine?
